A state senator from Indiana County has introduced legislation to allow teachers and other school employees to carry firearms to ward off intruders. He said rural areas without police nearby are vulnerable to attacks from outsiders. However, others say only trained professionals should be able to carry firearms in schools, noting the more guns in school the more problems schools will have. What do you think? Do you think it will protect students, or make them unsafe?

“In some countries teachers are required to carry firearms. With proper training I see no issue with this. A lot of carnage could be avoided or ended quickly if more people in schools were allowed to carry. Of course, these weapons would have to be locked up or holstered on the user’s body to avoid students gaining access to these firearms.”

“So, if the weapons are locked up, how in the world would anyone get to them quickly to stop an intruder. Remember the Sandy Hook incident took less than 10 minutes.”

“Oh, what could possibly go wrong? Let’s just turn the U.S. into the Middle East. Idiotic!”

“I feel a trained armed security professional or staff should be in every school. I don’t feel teachers should be armed, but they should take self-defense classes or take a firearms safety class.”

“And where are teachers going to find time to take these classes? And, better yet, who’s going to pay for them? Teachers won’t do this on their own time, and they shouldn’t be expected to do it.”

“I agree the staff should be trained and armed, but we should let teachers be teachers. We should also put discipline back into the schools. Older teens that cause problems only walk over teachers and others. Segregating them into a classroom or private school with a group of others, like Adelphi, doesn’t change them.”

“As far as the Middle East goes, we’re getting there slowly but surely. It seems as we’ve been bending over backwards to comply to their wants and beliefs. Prayer is out of schools, and flags aren’t being allowed like they once were. If people don’t like it here, they should leave. It’s that simple.”
