Toskala records San Jose;s first multipoint game by a goalie SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) – Vesa Toskala made 20 saves and recorded San Jose’s first multipoint game by a goalie, getting two first-period assists in the Sharks’ 4-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday.
Marcel Goc and Curtis Brown scored on plays initiated by Toskala, who backstopped San Jose to just its second victory in six games. Patrick Marleau and Milan Michalek also scored for the Sharks, who still haven’t fixed their once-vaunted power play but made enough hustle plays to win.
Tuomo Ruutu had a goal and an assist, and Martin Havlat also scored for the Blackhawks, who had won two straight following a 10-game losing streak. Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 27 shots, but lost for the 11th time in 14 appearances.
Islanders 4, Canadiens 2
MONTREAL – Trent Hunter scored two goals in a 10-minute span of the third period for the Islanders, extending his points streak to six games.
Hunter had a power-play goal 1:35 into the third that tied the game at 2. He put the Islanders ahead 3-2 midway through the period with his fifth goal in five games. Miroslav Satan followed with his second goal of the game to give New York a 4-2 lead.
Oilers 3, Avalanche 2
DENVER – Ryan Smyth and Shawn Horcoff scored 30 seconds apart in the third period to help the Oilers to their third victory in four games.
Ales Hemsky added a goal, and Smyth and Horcoff also each had an assist. Dwayne Roloson made 37 saves to end his three-game losing streak.
Devils 3, Sabres 2
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – John Madden, Jamie Langenbrunner and Zach Parise scored in a 2:31 span early in the third period and New Jersey pulled within four points of Buffalo for the best record in the Eastern Conference.
Martin Brodeur only had to make 15 saves as the Devils won for the seventh time in 10 games.

TAMPA, Fla. – Vincent Lecavalier scored a tiebreaking power-play goal with 8:07 left in the third period to lift Tampa Bay to its 10th win in 12 games.
Lecavalier’s goal from the top of the right circle came after the Rangers were penalized for having too many men on the ice. Rangers captain Jaromir Jagr argued with officials to no avail after the penalty was called.

ATLANTA – Mike York and Simon Gagne scored goals in a 57-second span early in the third period and Philadelphia extended its winning streak against the Thrashers to five games.
Jeff Carter and Alexei Zhitnik also scored in the final period for Philadelphia.

SUNRISE, Fla. – Sean Burke made 40 saves for his 38th career shutout, and Alexander Frolov and Michael Cammalleri each scored twice for Los Angeles.

OTTAWA – John Pohl scored on Toronto’s fifth shootout attempt and the Maple Leafs won their fourth straight, matching their longest winning streak of the season.
Andrew Raycroft, who made 30 saves, stopped Jason Spezza’s shot after Pohl scored with a backhand over Ray Emery’s right pad.
