California netters slip by Carlynton, 3-2
The Trojans’ No. 2 doubles team of Dylan Beckowitz and Jordan Rossell secured the non-section victory Tuesday afternoon as California edged visiting Carlynton, 3-2.
Beckowitz and Rossell defeated Nate Wilcox and Ryan Easterling in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2.
California won two of the three singles matches.
Josh Wohar defeated Colin Henke at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0, the same score of Austin Sutch’s win at No. 3 singles.
The Trojans’ John Monroe had a tough No. 1 singles match against Carlynton’s Luke Phillips, the defending WPIAL Class AA boys singles champion. Phillips won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1.
Carlynton’s Chris Wichelns and Gabe Prepelka lost two games in their straight-sets victory at No. 1 doubles against Bryce Hige and Tyler Troutman.
