Local teams come up short in golf semifinals
The golf season came to an end Monday in the semifinals for all five local boys teams in the WPIAL Team Championships.
Mount Pleasant finished fifth with a score of 461 and Uniontown sixth with 465 in the Class AA semifinal played at River Forest Country Club.
North Catholic (425), Quaker Valley (437), and Derry (442) earned the berths into the WPIAL Class AA Team Championship on Thursday at Cedarbrook Golf Course’s Golf course.
The Vikings’ Tim Pisula shared medalist honors with North Catholic’s Maddie Smithco after both golfers finished with 75. Uniontown’s Adena Rugola was the only other golfer to break 80 with a 79.
Carson Kirshner (95), Jonathan Wagner (96), Kyle Jones (90), Steve Brown (105), and Dalton Swartz (105) also played for Mount Pleasant. One of the 105 scores did not count in the final score.
Gage Brugger (88), Michael Mercadante (87), Maddie Myers (93), Nate Moody (118), and Dawson Plume (132) played in the semifinals for Uniontown. Plume’s score was not counted.
Sewickley Academy (386), Neshannock (429), and Riverside (430) advanced to the district final from the Class AA semifinal played at Beaver Valley Golf Club, a site that also included Carmichaels and Elizabeth Forward.
Riverside’s Skyler Fox was medalist with a 72.
The Warriors finished fourth and fell short of advancing to the final by five strokes with a team score of 435.
Mike Swart was the low man for Elizabeth Forward with an 81. DJ Michaels (92), Grae Grossman (83), AJ Palmer (87), Logan Monzak (92), and Calvin Terza (118) also played for the Warriors. Terza’s score did not count in the final tally.
Carmichaels finished fifth with a team score of 459. Remmey Lohr was the low golfer for the Mikes with an 86. Taggart Shea (87), Delaney Lohr (91), Bradley Walker (94), Nick Ricco (101), and Christopher Barrish (112) were also on the course for Carmichaels. Barrish’s score was not counted in the final tally.
Upper St. Clair (388), Shady Side Academy (390), and Central Catholic (391) will play in the Class AAA championship on Thursday at Cedarbrook Golf Course after advancing from the semifinal played at Indian Run Golf Club.
Belle Vernon finished eighth in the semifinal with a team score of 442. Jake Caldwell was the low man for the Leopards with a 79. Tyler Mocello (85), Patrick Bush (89), Maria Kruppa (100), Adreanna Scaramucci (89), and Sam West (121) also played in the semifinal for Belle Vernon.
Shady Side Academy’s Adam Lauer was the medalist with a 67.
Fox Chapel (385), Seneca Valley (392), and Peters Twp. (399) advanced through the Class AAA semifinal at The Links at Spring Church.
