Late rally lifts Lady Falcons over Yough, 40-37
Brownsville trailed Yough by 10 points with 3½ minutes remaining in Thursday’s Section 4-AAA, but, sparked by Zhariah Reed, rallied for a 40-37 victory.
“We went man-to-man. We don’t play it often. It was very effective,” said Brownsville coach Patty Columbia. “They turned the ball over and we got back in the game.”
Reed scored eight of her 13 points in the final quarter, including the final two foul shots that iced the victory.
“Zhariah was phenomenal in the fourth quarter,” praised Columbia.
Skyler Gates led the Lady Falcons (2-3, 9-7) with 15 points.
Autumn Matthews scored a game-high 21 points for Yough (1-4, 8-8). Hailey Bock added 14.
Waynesburg Central 62, Charleroi 41 – The Lady Raiders remained unbeaten in Section 4-AAA play with a road victory at Charleroi.
Waynesburg (6-0, 16-1) led 11-3, 29-13 and 42-25 at the quarter breaks.
Josie Horne paced the Lady Raiders with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Avery Davis finished with 12 points.
Riley Jones led the Lady Cougars (0-6, 7-9) with 16 points. Ella Sypolt contributed 12 points.
Oakland Catholic 64, Albert Gallatin 15 – Oakland Catholic rolled to a Section 3-AAAAA victory on the road at Albert Gallatin.
Oakland Catholic (10-0, 18-0) led 19-4 after the first quarter and 39-5 at halftime.
Mya Glisan scored 10 points for the Lady Colonials (1-8, 4-14).
London Creach paced Oakland Catholic with 10 points.
Belle Vernon 42, Uniontown 30 – Nina Francia and Saylor Lee both finished with a double-double to lead the visiting Lady Leopards to a Section 3-AAAA road victory.
Francia scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, both career highs, for Belle Vernon (5-4, 9-9). Saylor finished with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Caroline Lee pulled down 10 rebounds.
Geelece led the Lady Raiders (2-7, 5-12) with 13 points.
West Mifflin 57, Ringgold 7 – The visiting Lady Titans returned home with a Section 3-AAAA victory.
West Mifflin improves to 6-2 in the section and 8-6 overall. The Lady Rams slip to 0-9 in the section and 3-14 overall.
Elizabeth Forward 80, Southmoreland 7 – Four players scored in double figures for the Lady Warriors in a Section 3-AAAA home victory.
Elizabeth Forward (10-0, 17-2) held the Lady Scots scoreless in the second and third quarters.
Elizabeth Forward’s Alyssa Terza (18), Addyson Nigut (15), Kaelynn Settles (12), and Mia Sostaric (12) all finished in double digits.
Southmoreland falls to 1-8 in the section and 2-16 overall.
Monessen 58, Geibel Catholic 34 – The Lady Greyhounds swept the Section 2-A series with the Lady Gators.
Geibel (4-2, 11-5) led 9-8 after the first quarter, but Monessen rallied for a 24-20 halftime lead. Monessen (5-0, 11-3) put the game away with a 20-3 advantage in the fourth quarter.
The Lady Greyhounds Na’Jaziah Carter (13), Hailey Johnson (12), Madison Johnson (11), and Sidney Campbell (10) combined for 46 points.
Emma Larkin paced the Lady Gators with a game-high 17 points. Ava Henderson chipped in 11 points.
West Greene 46, Avella 27 – The Lady Pioneers held the visitors to single digits in each quarter for a Section 2-A victory.
Kasie Meek led West Greene (4-1, 7-9) with 12 points. Melissa Tharp contributed 11 points and Kylee Davis added 10.
Ava Frank scored 12 points for the Lady Eagles (1-5, 3-13).
Jefferson-Morgan 48, Mapletown 31 – The Lady Rockets pulled ahead at halftime and kept adding to their advantage in the final 16 minutes for a Section 2-A road victory.
Jefferson-Morgan (1-5, 3-14) led 26-17 at halftime and 36-27 after three quarters.
The Lady Rockets’ Kayla Larkin scored a game-high 26 points. Ali Ostrich finished with 10 points.
Isabella Garnek had a solid all-around performance for the Lady Maples (2-4, 5-1) with 19 points, 20 rebounds and five steals.
Burrell 37, Mount Pleasant 36 – The Lady Bucs outscored Mount Pleasant in overtime, 10-9, to return home with a Section 3-AAA road victory.
Burrell led 5-4 after the first quarter. Mount Pleasant pulled ahead at halftime, 14-12. Burrell regained the lead after the third quarter, 20-18. Mount Pleasant forced overtime with a 9-7 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Grace Arrigo scored a game-high 13 points for Mount Pleasant (3-3, 10-6). Jules Fisher finished with 12 points for Burrell (5-1, 13-3).
Washington 59, Frazier 40 – The Lady Commodores were unable to hold a 13-11 lead after the first quarter in a Section 4-AA loss to visiting Washington.
Washington (7-1, 9-8) led 25-20 at halftime and 45-31 after three quarters.
Allie Yauch scored a game-high 16 points for Frazier (2-7, 5-13). Chloe Harger added 14.
Kaprice Johnson led Washington with 15 points. Olivia Woods finished with 13 points.

McGuffey 796-46x, Waynesburg Central 788-51x – The Raiders dropped a Section 1 virtual match to the Highlanders.
Abbi Kidd was the top shooter for Waynesburg with 100-6x. Faithlynn Vukmanic was also on target with a score of 100-5x. Logan Crouse (99-8x), Emma Lawson (99-8x), Wyatt Franklin (97-7x), Joe Withrow (98-7x), and Aylah Ford (97-4x) rounded out the scoring for the Raiders.
McGuffey’s Riley Dunn (100-8x), Abigail Noble (100-8x), Marcus Ray (100-6x), and Rachael Cox (100-6x) were all perfect.
Boys swimming
Mount Pleasant 80, Ligonier Valley 26 – The Vikings cruised to a Section 4-AA home victory over the Rams.
Mount Pleasant improved to 4-0 in the section.
Logan Snively (200 IM) and Gunnar Probst (100 butterfly) met the WPIAL qualifying standard.
Snively (200 IM, 100 backstroke), Sean Painter (50 freestyle), David Mutter (100 butterfly), Joseph Gardner (100 breaststroke), and Quinn Heinnickel (100 freestyle) all finished first for Mount Pleasant. The Vikings swept the relays.

Mount Pleasant 80, Ligonier Valley 54 – Lily King had two first-place finishes in the Lady Vikings’ Section 4-AA home win.
King won the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. Kiersten O’Connor (200 freestyle), Maddie Barrick (100 butterfly), Lainey Brown (500 freestyle), Gabby Kinneer (100 backstroke), and Kaylie Korpiel (100 breaststroke) also had first-place finishes.
The Lady Vikings won the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.
Hockey
Elizabeth Forward 14, Trinity 6 – The Warriors put the PIHL D2 Blue Division home game away with eight goals in the second period.
Trinity (1-13-0-0-0) scored the first two goals of the game, and Trinity responded with 11 unanswered goals.
Josh Hill scored five goals for Elizabeth Forward (7-5-0-0-0). Bobby Boord Jr., and Joey Wach netted two goals apiece. Owen Sabatini, Aidan Motil, Lucas Newmyer, Doug Hoffman and Cameron Napoli scored one goal each.
Elizabeth Forward’s Andrew Costello stopped 19 shots. Trinity’s Kirsten Lallone faced 44 shots with 30 saves.
