Madison Wiltrout topped 60 meters twice in her six attempts in the finals Sunday afternoon and her first was strong enough for third place javelin at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials at Hayward Field.

The Connellsville graduate fell short of the Olympic standard of 64 meters, but still has an opportunity for a berth on the Olympic team because of her top three finish. She could receive consideration based on the latest world rankings that come out early in the week.

Wiltrout was in second place until the last throw of the finals.

She opened with a throw of 57.20 meters (187-8). Wiltrout followed with a personal best throw of 61.17 meters (200-8), and secured a spot in the final eight with a throw of 55.98 meters (183-8).

Wiltrout fouled on the first of her final three throws.

She recovered on her second attempt, though, with a throw of 56.31 meters (184-9).

Kara Winger hit 62.94 meters (206-6) on her final throw to slip into second place. Wiltrout again topped 60 meters on her final attempt with her throw of 61.15 meters (200-7).

Maggie Malone Hardin had the best throw of the competition on her first attempt when she launched the javelin with an automatic Olympic qualifying distance of 64.58 meters (211-10).

Marissa Kalsey cleared the first two heights, but faltered on the third to place 13th in the finals of the pole vault.

The Waynesburg Central graduate needed all three attempts to clear the opening height of 4.28 meters (14-½). She cleared 4.43 meters (14-6¼) on her second attempt.

Kalsey bowed out of the finals at 4.53 meters (14-10¼).

Hempfield graduate Bridget Williams finished first with a vault of 4.73 meters (15-6¼). She was clear on her first five heights, opening at 4.43 meters.

Reigning Olympic champion Katie Moon finished second and Brynn King was third to round out the squad representing the United States in the Paris Summer Olympics.
