Lady Warriors advance to WPIAL title game with 7-2 win

Elizabeth Forward scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning and added three insurance runs in the sixth for a 7-2 victory Wednesday afternoon over Chartiers Valley in the semifinal round of the WPIAL Class AAAA softball playoffs at West Mifflin.

The Lady Warriors (19-1) advance to next week’s championship against Hampton, who shut out Blackhawk, 10-0. The victory was the 10th in a row for Elizabeth Forward.

Elizabeth Forward jumped out early with two runs in the top of the first inning.

Chartiers Valley (16-4) tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning on Lily Duffill’s two-run home run. Duffill and Marta Gualazzi paced Chartiers Valley with two hits apiece.

Elizabeth Forward responded quickly with two runs in the fifth inning and put the game away with three more runs in the sixth.

Carlee Soukup led the way for the Lady Warriors with three RBI. Addyson Nigut went 3-for-3 with two RBI. Julia Johnson and Julia Resnik both drove in a run, and Aubri Cimba doubled.

Shelby Teledgy pitched six strong innings in the victory, allowing two earned runs on four hits with two walks and 10 strikeouts. She also had a double and single.

Johnson pitched a hitless, scoreless seventh inning in relief with one strikeout.

Taylor Walsh took the loss, allowing 10 hits with two strikeouts and four walks.
