All in the family: Trimmer to continue career at Lehigh with sister
The Trimmer family won’t have to worry about split duty to watch their daughters run this fall.
That’s because Grace Trimmer decided to continue her athletic and scholastic careers, and join older sister Hope at Lehigh University.
“I had a good amount of schools (recruiting her). A lot were Division II,” said Trimmer.
Trimmer admitted reuniting with her sister was one of the reasons she ultimately selected Lehigh.
“It was a good factor to have. It’s awesome to have her there, but it wasn’t a deciding factor,” said Trimmer. “I took an official visit and it was the place I was meant to be.
“Hope always said the coach was asking about me. It meant a lot (the coach) was genuinely interested in me. I can’t wait.”
Trimmer added, “The coach was a female version of Joe (Uniontown cross country coach Joe Everhart.)”
Trimmer plans to major in psychology and minor in art with the intention of becoming an art therapist.
Trimmer is familiar with Lehigh’s home course after running in the Paul Short Run this fall.
“It’s a nice course,” said Trimmer.
Trimmer was slowed for the first month or so of the cross country season as she sat out in concussion protocol. The senior hit the ground running, literally, with a strong close to the season.
Trimmer finished first in the TSTCA meet, A.J. Everhart Invitational and FCCA Championship. She placed second in the WPIAL Class AA Cross Country Championship and was fifth in the state meet.
Trimmer holds the cross country record with a time of 18:15.20, breaking the mark previously held by her sister.
Trimmer plans to run in the indoor track season, plus returns to the swimming team this winter.
“I’m back on the swim team. The girls were hurting for swimmers,” explained Trimmer, who will likely compete on the relays and the 500 freestyle.
Trimmer already has a goal set for the spring track & field season.
“There are things I have to do in track season. I want the 3,200 record. Julie Friend has the record,” said Trimmer, adding, “Hope has the 800 record. I want both of us to be up there.”
Ready or not, her final year running for the Lady Raiders is quickly coming to a close.
“It hasn’t quite hit me yet, I’m a senior,” said Trimmer, adding, “I’m ready to move onto bigger things.”
