Trimmer, Stewart take top running honors in Turkey Trot

Over 650 runners and walkers braved the raw weather conditions on a chilly, rainy Thanksgiving morning to compete in the annual Salvation Army Turkey Trot.

Former Uniontown teammates Hope Trimmer and Mason Stewart won the 5K run titles.

Trimmer edged her younger sister Grace for the women’s title. Hope Trimmer crossed the finish line in 18:50, just two seconds ahead of her sister.

Laurel Highlands graduate Marissa Deichert placed third in 19:19. Jenaya Swinger was fourth with a time of 20:23, just edging Brownsville graduate Jennifer Hoffman with the same time.

Stewart’s winning time was 16:18. Laurel Highlands senior Matt Schwertfeger was second with a time of 16:43. Donovan Boord (16:49), Mitchell Minda (17:49), and Matthew Mansfield (17:57) rounded out the top five finishers.

Yukon’s Brian Lohr moved into the lead around the midpoint of the 5K walk and held the momentum to win his first walking title in a time of 35:16.

Connellsville’s Jim Downey held on for second place with a time of 35:36 and Uniontown’s Mark Rambo was close third in 35:38. Monroeville’s Don Slusser placed fourth with a time of 38:19 and Uniontown’s Ralph Warman closed out the top five in 38:40.

Mount Pleasant’s Jacynth Drumhiller successfully defended her women’s walking title with a first-place finish in 38:01.

Uniontown’s Pam Hughes was second in 38:38. Smock’s Stacy Myers placed third in 40:09. Uniontown’s Susan George (41:41) and Tracy Harvey (41:47) rounded out the top-5 finishers.
