Local roundup: Connellsville knocks off AG for first golf win

Hunter Konieczny shot a 6-over-par 41 to lead a balanced effort as Connellsville defeated host Albert Gallatin, 219-227, in a Section 2-3A boys golf match for its first victory of the season on Thursday.
Nicky Farrell turned in the second-best score of the day with a 42 and Wade Bryner was right behind with a 43 for the Falcons (1-3, 1-5). Rounding out the scoring for Connellsville were Carson Colborn (45) and Santo Crucio (48).
Tyler Felio and Clay Smith led the way for the Colonials (2-4, 3-4) with each shooting a 43. They were followed by Camdyn Williams (46), Garrett Snyder (47) and Gianni Paoli (48).
Waynesburg Central 195, Carmichaels 205 – The Mikes’ Eli Hastings earned medalist honors with an even-par 33 but it wasn’t enough as the host Raiders were victorious in the Section 3-2A match at Rohanna’s Golf Course.
Jarett Tretnik shot a 37 and Cole Headlee followed with a 38 to pace unbeaten Waynesburg (4-0, 5-0). Austin Surber carded a 39, Matt Eisiminger turned in a 40 and Lucas Slifko had a 41 for the Raiders.
Chase Ankrom was next in line after Hastings for Carmichaels (3-1, 3-2) with a 40, Jayden Kerley shot a 41 and Connor Lapana shot a 45. The Mikes’ Anthony Post and Cooper Richards both had a 46 with one of those scores being dropped.
Brownsville 225, Bentworth 225 – The Falcons went to a playoff for the second day in a row but after falling to Beth-Center on Tuesday Brownsville prevailed this time against the Bearcats with a 20-22 edge on the extra hole in their Section 3-2A match at Chippewa Golf Club.
The Falcons’ Dom Capan and Bentworth’s Wyatt Snyder both recorded pars on the par-4 playoff hole but bogeys by Ava Rohland and Hunter McDonald and a double bogey by Ben Vojacek were enough to give Brownsville (1-3, 1-3) the victory.
Vojacek and the Bearcats’ Trent Wolpink each shot a 4-over 39 in regulation to share medalist honors. Rohland carded a 40 for the Falcons and was followed by Capan (44) McDonald (48) and Adam Vojacek (54).
Following Wolpink for Bentworth (0-5, 1-5) were Craig McDonald (43), Sam Wade (47), Jeremy Bland (47) and Snyder (49).
Charleroi 204, Frazier 243 – Jake Corrin turned in a 39 for the best score of the day in the Cougars’ Section 8-2A victory over the visiting Commodores at Mon Valley Country Club.
Levi Large was next in line for Charleroi with a 40, Luke Henderson and Ethan Hartley each shot 41 and Brock Henderson wrapped up the Cougars’ scoring with a 43.
Logan Solomon led Frazier with a 43 and was followed by Eli Cernuska (47), Kaden Phillips (48), John Sinchar (49) and Bryce Leachman (56).
Laurel Highlands 209, Albert Gallatin 227 – Kayden Smith shot a sizzling 3-under-par 33, which included an eagle, to help propel the Mustangs to a Section 3-3A win over the Colonials at Uniontown Country Club on Tuesday.
Laurel Highlands’ Sevi Vecchiolla fired the second-best round of the day with a 40 and was followed by Ryan Revak (43), Dan O’Neal (45) and Damon Revak (48).
Topping Albert Gallatin in scoring once again was Tyler Felio with a 43. Garrett Snyder shot a 44, Clay Smith carded a 45, Gianni Paoli turned in a 46 and Colton Chipps capped the scoring for the Colonials with a 49.
Girls golf
Southmoreland 199, Geibel Catholic 253 – Kendall Campbell and Kearlyn Fedorko both shot a 49 in the Lady Scotties’ Section 1-2A victory over the visiting Lady Gators at Donegal Highlands Golf Course.
Paige Gunderson and Riyah Younkin rounded out the scoring for Southmoreland with a 50 and 51, respectively.
Geibel was paced by Mallory Clemmer and Paige Dolan who each turned in a 62, with Emma Larkin right behind with a 63. Nolace Petrosky capped the scoring for the Lady Gators with a 66.
Greensburg Central Catholic 185, Mount Pleasant 194 – Kennedy Kelly shot a 38 and Alayna Stawovy shot a 39 to lead the way in the Lady Centurions Section 1-2A victory over the Lady Vikings at Mount Odin Park Golf Course.
Cayla Kelly and Betsabe Chapman capped the GCC scoring with a 53 and a 55.
Ally Christner led Mount Pleasant (2-2, 2-2) with a 45, Morgan Miller and Victoria Tepper both shot 47 and Lainey Brown added a 55.
