Local roundup: Fillies get 2 hat tricks in win; Gesinski scores 100th goal

Adrianna Walker and Camryn McClean both recorded hat tricks as Laurel Highlands rolled to a 9-2 victory over visiting West Mifflin in a non-section girls soccer match on Wednesday.

Walker added two assists in a five-point night and McClean also notched an assist for the Fillies in their season opener.

Taylor Irwin put in a pair of goals and contributed an assist for Laurel Highlands which also got a goal from Ella Doman.

The Lady Titans (1-2) got one goal apiece from Carline Chelosky and Abby Jakubovic.

Mount Pleasant 5, Hopewell 0 – Morgan Gesinski reached the 100-goal mark for her career with a hat trick in the Lady Vikings’ non-section victory over the visiting Lady Vikings (0-1).

Mount Pleasant (2-0-1) got the only goal of the first half when Sophia Coppola scored just 48 seconds into the match. Gesinski put in the first three goals of the second half to make it 4-0 and Camryn Kapr capped the scoring for the Lady Vikings.

Mount Pleasant goalkeeper Laurel Rummel has yet to be scored upon this season as she recorded her third shutout.

South Park 4, Belle Vernon 0 – The unbeaten Lady Eagles (2-0, 4-0) got one goal apiece from Hayley Bennett, Reese Recker, Mady Serechin and Berlin Washington in a Section 1-2A win over the host Lady Leopards.

Skylar Salay made 12 saves for Belle Vernon (1-1, 1-1).

Southmoreland 2, Bentworth 0 – Hannah Conn scored one goal in each half as the Lady Scotties blanked the visiting Lady Bearcats (1-1) in a non-section match.

Megan Potoka notched the shutout for Southmoreland (1-0-1).

“Southmoreland’s keep had a great game,” Bentworth coach Tyler Hamstra said. “Definitely stole a few back. Good thing to get some good minutes versus an AA playoff-level team.”

Allderdice 2, Connellsville 0 – Brooklyn Potter scored both goals for the host Lady Dragons (3-0) in a non-section victory over the Lady Falcons (1-1-1).

Boys golf

Jefferson-Morgan 221, Carmichaels 237 – Urijah Teasdale shot a 1-over-par 37 to earn medalist honors in the Rockets’ Section 3-2A victory over the visiting Mikes at Greene County Country Club.

Also scoring for J-M (4-2, 4-3) were Brayden Ellsworth (43), Trenton Sowden (46), Jaymison Robinson (47) and Miles Sowden (48).

Eli Hastins paced Carmichaels (3-3, 3-4) with a 45 and was followed by Jayden Kerley (47), Connor Lapana (48), Cooper Richards (48) and Anthony Post (49).

Waynesburg Central 199, Beth-Center 234 – Rykan Gustafson and Austin Surber each shot a 4-over-par 37 to share medalist honors and help the Raiders remain undefeated with a Section 3-2A win over visiting Beth-Center at Rohanna Golf Course.

Jarett Tretnik was one shot behind the leaders with a 38 for Waynesburg (6-0, 7-0) which also got a 42 from Cole Headlee and a 45 from Matt Eisimenger.

Austin Kurowski was the top golfer for the Bulldogs (1-6, 1-7) with a 44 while Parker Amos, Jacob Nopwaskey and Ryan Krosko each turned in a 47. Evan Lowman had a 49.

Frazier 219, Yough 222 – John Sinchar shot a 6-over-par 42 as the Commodores rode balanced scoring to a three-stroke victory over the host Cougars in a Section 8-2A match at The Madison Club.

Eli Cernuska carded a 43 for Frazier and was followed by Caden Biddle with a 44 and Mason Ritz and Logan Solomon who each turned in a 45.

Anthony Bonari took medalist honors with a 5-over 41 for Yough. Morgan Calderone had a 42, Nate Bell shot a 45 and Carl Singer, Dallys Swank and Ian Toman each carded a 47 with one of those scores being dropped.

Belle Vernon 200, Uniontown 241 – Jordan Mocello fired a 2-under-par 34 and Jack Edwards shot a 1-over 37 as the Leopards topped the host Red Raiders in a Section 2-3A match at Uniontown Country Club.

Rounding out the scoring for Belle Vernon were Landon Vaccaro (41), Preston Rathway (42) and Connor Bergman (46).

Liam Glover and Jason VanSickle led the way for Uniontown with a 45 and 46, respectively. They were followed by Graci Rodeheaver (49), Jackson Collins (50) and JJ Stewart (51).

Ringgold 214, Connellsville 222 – Evan Callaway had the top round of the day with a 3-over-par 39 in the Rams’ Section 2-3A win over the Falcons at Rolling Green Golf Course.

Evan Anderson shot a 41 for Ringgold (3-3, 3-4) and was followed by Brady Lippert (42), Trevor Benson (45) and Cole Komonich (47).

Nicky Farrell shot a 40 for Connellsville (2-4, 2-6) which got a 44 from Toby Soltis and 46s from Mike Roscart, Hunter Konieczny and Wade Bryner.

Girls volleyball

Uniontown 3, Connellsville 1 – The Lady Raiders took the first two sets on their way to a non-section victory over the visiting Lady Falcons.

Uniontown won the first set, 25-15 and the second set 25-20, but Connellsville prevented the sweep by taking the third set, 25-21. The Lady Raiders closed out the match in the fourth set, 25-12.
