Laurel Highlands' Scott McClay (8) pulls in a pass from Gabriel Centofanti (18) during Friday night's game against Ambridge at Mustang Field.

Brayden Hinzy threw a touchdown pass to Cam Dugan in the fourth quarter to give visiting Uniontown a 12-8 victory over Perry Traditional Academy in a non-conference battle at Cupples Stadium in Pittsburgh on Friday afternoon.

The win was the Red Raiders’ first under new head coach Tim Bukowski.

Uniontown (1-1) got on the board first when Tayshawn Johnson scored on a 3-yard touchdown run in the second quarter but the extra-point kick was no good.

The Commodores scored later in the quarter on Chaz Jackson’s 14-yard run and Jackson’s 2-point conversion pass to Daron Martin put the hosts ahead 8-6 at halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter, Hinzy connected with Dugan on a 38-yard touchdown pass for the go-ahead score.

“We’re happy to get the win,” Bukowski said. “The players had to come back in the second half and Hinzy made a big throw to Dugan to take the lead.”

Dugan didn’t get his hands on the ball much but with two rushes for 48 yards and his one reception for the 38-yard TD he averaged 28 yards per touch.

David Settles ran the ball 11 times for 24 yards, Jackson carried four times for 18 yards and Marcus Evans had two rushes for 17 yards. As a team, Uniontown had 109 yards on the ground on 22 attempts.

Hinzy completed 4 of 11 passes for 70 yards and the TD. Marcus Evans had one reception for 20 yards.

Deonte Herring led Perry (0-2) with four receptions for 106 yards but Uniontown’s defense kept the Commodores in check most of the day.

“The defense played in their backfield most of the game,” said Bukowski who also praised his assistant coaches. “I credit my staff for having them prepared and playing aggressive.”

Nyzeh Thomas came up with an interception for the Red Raiders.

“We still have a lot to clean up,” Bukowski said, “but hopefully the win will give us some confidence going forward.”
