Strimel pours in 27 as Gators hold off Propel Montour
Evan Strimel poured in a game-high 27 points to help visiting Geibel Catholic hold off Propel Montour in a non-section boys basketball battle Tuesday night.
The Gators (4-2) led 27-21 after a high-scoring opening frame but the Legends (1-1) fought back to within 38-35 at halftime and 54-52 after three quarters.
Geibel stayed in control and held a four-point lead before Propel Montour banked in a half-court shot just before the final buzzer to slice the final margin to one.
Seth Dolan also hit double figures for the Gators with 17 points and Anthony Nickischer added 12 points.
John Anderson paced the Legends with 22 points and was followed by Marsai Porch (20) and TyTy Hawkins (15).
Jefferson-Morgan 46, Beth-Center 29 — Jeremiah Robertson tallied 17 points as the host Rockets remained unbeaten with a Section 3-2A victory over the Bulldogs (1-1, 3-2).
Jefferson-Morgan led 16-9 after one quarter, 25-14 at halftime and 33-22 after three.
Dayten Marion contributed 13 points for the Rockets (2-0, 4-0) and Brayden Ellsworth added 10, including a pair of 3-pointers.
Hempfield 68, Connellsville 44 — The Spartans out-scored the host Falcons 46-17 in overcoming a five-point halftime deficit during their Section 2-6A win.
Trevor Donsen led Hempfield (1-1, 4-2) with 19 points and Danny Husenits had 11.
Connellsville trailed 12-9 after the first quarter but used an 18-10 advantage in the second quarter to go up 27-22 before the Spartans roared back in the second half.
Christian Thomas topped the Falcons (1-1, 2-4) in scoring with 11 points.
Gateway 59, Laurel Highlands 27 — Mykel Bruce-McCrommon scored 28 points in the host Gators’ Section 1-5A victory over the Mustangs.
Gateway (2-0, 2-1) led 14-5, 27-12 and 41-22 at the quarter breaks.
Kayden Smith paced Laurel Highlands (0-2, 4-3) with 11 points.
Penn-Trafford 71, Albert Gallatin 42 — Zach Feldman scored 17 points and the host Warriors gradually pulled away for a Section 1-5A victory over the Colonials.
Penn-Trafford led 19-8, 39-21 and 59-37 at the quarter breaks.
Ethan McDonald and Ben Lenart each had 12 points for the Warriors.
Mekhi Belt led AG (0-2, 2-4) with 14 points.
West Greene 55, Mapletown 20 — Matt Wassil scored 14 points in the Pioneers’ Section 3-2A victory at Mapletown.
Darren Knight followed with 13 points and Will Shipman added 12 for West Greene (1-0, 1-3).
The Pioneers led 18-6, 31-10 and 55-16 at the quarter breaks.
Colton Taylor and Kaleb Evosevich led Mapletown (0-2, 0-6) with eight points apiece.
Belle Vernon 74, Yough 25 — Curty Wade tallied 14 points in the Leopards’ Section 3-4A win over the host Cougars.
Cam Jenko and Elijah Majors followed with 13 points apiece for Belle Vernon (2-0, 5-3).
The Leopards leapt to a 22-6 advantage in the first quarter then exploded for 30 points in the second to take a commanding 52-19 halftime lead.
Wyatt Kalna dropped in 12 points for Yough (0-2, 0-8).
Riverview 44, Frazier 38 — Rex Roberts scored 16 points and the Raiders held off a late flurry by the visiting Commodores to claim a Section 1-2A win.
Riverview (1-1, 3-5) held Frazier (1-1, 4-4) without a point in the second quarter of a low-scoring first half that ended with the Raiders up 15-6 and they extended their advantage to 34-18 after three.
The Commodores held a 20-10 edge in the final frame but fell six points short.
Kolby Stewart matched Roberts for game-high honors with 16 points for Frazier, which also got 13 points from Austin Stewart and 10 rebounds from Brant Alekson.
Chartiers-Houston 56, Carmichaels 17 — Wes Yeater made four 3-pointers in scoring a 14 points as the Bucs rolled past the host Mikes in a Section 3-2A game.
Chartiers-Houston (2-0, 4-2) put 11 different players in the scoring column.
Brayden Andrews had six points for Carmichaels (0-1, 0-4).
Seton LaSalle 70, Waynesburg Central 43 — Jaleel White had 19 points in the host Rebels’ non-section win over the Raiders.
Seton LaSalle (5-2) led 16-4, 29-17 and 46-29 at the quarter breaks.
Charlie Crummie (13) and Dayvaughn Williams (10) also were double-digit scorers for the Rebels..
Cole Headlee totaled 15 points, five assists and four rebounds for Waynesburg (2-3), which also got 14 points from Dane Woods and five rebounds from Quentin Williams.
Springdale 76, California 42 — Robby Simmen racked up 39 points and Liam Dexten added 30 as the Dynamos (1-1, 2-3) cruised to a Section 1-2A win over the visiting Trojans.
Weston Monticelli and Ben Ziolecki each tossed in 11 points for California (0-2, 0-4).
Girls basketball
Brownsville 69, California 40 — Skyler Gates rang up a game-high 32 points and Ava Clark added 24 as the visiting Lady Falcons triumphed over California in a non-section game.
Brownsville (2-4) led 16-9, 28-21 and 46-31 at the quarter breaks.
Ciara Horabik also hit double figures for the Lady Falcons with 11 points.
Lila Mitchell led the way for the Lady Trojans with 14 points and Hayley Gibson tossed in 11.
Frazier 60, Charleroi 32 — Chloe Harger and Allie Yauch racked up 15 points apiece as the host Lady Commodores cruised to a non-section win over the Lady Cougars.
Frazier led 10-7 after the first quarter and 23-13 at halftime before out-scoring Charleroi 37-19 in the second half.
Malana Burton contributed 10 points for the Lady Commodores (3-4).
Charleroi (3-4) was led by Eden Smith with 14 points.
West Greene 50, Mapletown 12 — The Lady Pioneers led only 14-10 after the first quarter but out-scored the host Lady Maples 36-2 the rest of the way to earn a Section 2-A win.
Kendra Tharp led West Greene (1-1, 5-2) with 14 points and was followed by Madelyn Roberts (13) and Jillilssa Yeater (11).
Taylor Mitchell scored four points for Mapletown (0-2, 1-6).
Derry 39, Southmoreland 34 — Trinity Miller scored 15 points and the Lady Trojans fought off the host Lady Scotties in a non-section clash.
Southmoreland (1-7) led 9-6 after the first quarter but Derry (2-5) surged to a 20-14 halftime lead and took a 28-22 advantage into the final frame.
Kylee Metcalf added 12 points for Derry the Lady Trojans.
Ashley Seder was the top scorer for Southmoreland with 16 points and Leah Moore chipped in with 14.
Fort Cherry 52, Carmichaels 13 — Allison Litman and Emily Pfender each had 11 points in the Lady Rangers’ non-section win at Carmichaels.
Julie Klose added 10 points for Fort Cherry (2-4).
Ke’Lani Chun scored five points for the Lady Mikes (1-5).
Bethel Park 69, Albert Gallatin 9 — Naiya Turner and Fiona O’Neill each had 12 points in the Lady Black Hawks’ Section 4-5A win over the visiting Lady Colonials.
Bethel Park (1-1, 3-2) led 41-1 at halftime.
Mikayla Shea scored four points for Albert Gallatin (0-5, 0-2).

Connellsville 7, Central Valley 0 — Mason Mazak recorded a hat trick and Nick Daniels-Nimick had 20 saves as the Falcons blanked the host Warriors (2-8-1) in a PIHL Division 2 game.
Connellsville also got a goal and an assist from Nolan Wojnar and four assists from Sam Denny.
