Local roundup: Waynesburg tops Uniontown in girls tourney final

Waynesburg Central out-scored Uniontown 12-3 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 52-37 victory in Sunday’s Carmichaels King Coal Lions Tournament girls basketball championship game.

Tess Pauley led Waynesburg (8-1) with 15 points, Payton Cowell followed with 12 and Emma Blair chipped in with 10.

Uniontown led 15-12 after the first quarter but Waynesburg surged to a 26-21 halftime advantage and was up 39-34 after three.

Aierra Jenkins scored a game-high 16 points for Uniontown (6-3) which also got 10 points from Charley Murtha.

Pauley was named the tournament MVP while teammates Chatham Knight and Cowell were chosen for the all-tournament team.

Jefferson-Morgan 45, Carmichaels 30 — Ava Wood scored 19 points and the Lady Rockets pulled away in the second half to win the Carmichaels King Coal Lions Tournament consolation game.

The Lady Mikes held a 13-9 lead after the first quarter but J-M surged to a 17-16 halftime advantage and out-scored the hosts 28-14 in the second half.

Brelyn Woods added 16 points for Jefferson-Morgan (5-4).

Ke’Lani Chun tied for game-high honors and led Carmichaels (1-9) with 19 points.

Bethel Park 39, Belle Vernon 36 — Kat Boff scored 12 points as the Lady Black Hawks edged the Lady Leopards at the Cal U Holiday Tournament.

Bethel Park (6-2) led 12-7, 22-19 and 28-26 at the quarter breaks in the tightly contested matchup.

Isis Almyty led Belle Vernon (6-3) with 11 points and Aubrey Brown followed with 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Lyla McConnell had five assists for the Lady Leopards which also got two steals each from Almyty, Brown and Abby Russell.

Laurel Highlands 39, Charleroi 30 — The Lady Mustangs (3-7) defeated the Lady Cougars (3-8) at Beth-Center’s Winter Jam Tournament.

Obama Academy 51, Albert Gallatin 35 — The Lady Eagles (5-3) extended their winning streak to five games with a victory over the Lady Colonials (0-9) at Beth-Center’s Winter Jam Tournament.

Alldercice 66, Brownsville 18 — The Lady Dragons (7-2) beat the Lady Falcons (2-7) at the Cal U Holiday Tournament.
