WVU lineman Haslam to enter transfer portal
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — After one year, versatile offensive lineman Donovan Haslam is moving on from West Virginia.
It was reported by CBS Sports’ Chris Hummer and later confirmed by Haslam that he’d be entering the transfer portal when it opened on Jan. 2. Haslam played mostly at left guard, filling in for Walter Young Bear, and also saw action at right guard and tackle. He started in five games and saw action in 10.
Haslam wasn’t with the Mountaineers long and transferred in from Austin Peay, hoping to make an impact in his redshirt junior season. At Austin Peay, he played in 24 games and saw most of his action in his final season, playing in 12 and starting in nine at left tackle.
Haslam was expected to be an offensive lineman of the future for WVU, even though the entire line struggled at times. Haslam was one of the few offensive linemen with eligibility left that’d hopefully make a jump in Year 2 under Rich Rodriguez.
He’s not the first offensive lineman to look to play elsewhere. There are multiple who’ve entered their names, including tackle Xavier Bausley, who entered his name a few days prior.
The offensive line was a weak point for WVU in 2025. The Mountaineers allowed the second-most sacks in the Big 12 with 31. WVU has brought in reinforcements, with the addition of 4-star lineman Kevin Brown, and recently, Rodriguez reportedly added a long-time and former WVU O-line coach, Rich Trickett, to help out.
The removal of so many linemen could point to a couple of experienced portal additions at O-line that could be coming once the period opens. However, Rodriguez said he wasn’t going to add so many transfers this cycle.
