Pegg, Jamison star as AG improves to 7-0

Albert Gallatin doesn’t mind sharing the spotlight.
Last week Tee Guesman ran for a school-record seven touchdowns in a 63-56 win at Allegany.
This week it was Adam Pegg’s and Bronx Jamison’s turn.
Jamison rushed for 118 yards and threw two touchdown passes to Pegg who scored five TDs as the undefeated Colonials improved to 7-0 with a 62-27 win at Clear Spring in Maryland on Friday night.
Pegg also ran for a pair of scores and had one of AG’s two interception returns for touchdowns as the Colonials extended their program record for consecutive wins to 10.
“Like we always say, anyone can step up for us at any time,” Albert Gallatin coach Drew Dindl said. “They’re always ready. It all depends on what the defense wants to do that night.”
The Blazers (1-4) were focused on stopping AG’s inside running game after Guesman exploded for 285 yards against Allegany.
“To start the game out they really loaded the box,” Dindl said. “They only took a week of film off of us and saw Tee had a really big game.”
Jamison and Pegg took advantage.
“The first two plays we had were touchdown passes,” Dindl pointed out.
Jamison put the Colonials ahead to stay with a 68-yard touchdown strike to Pegg just 17 seconds into the game. Pegg then ended Clear Spring’s first drive with a 30-yard interception return for a TD. When Albert Gallatin got the ball back it scored again through the air with Jamison’s 24-yard pass to Pegg.
It was the second week in a row a Colonial scored the first three touchdowns of the game in the first quarter with Guesman doing so last Friday.
Albert Gallatin got another pick-six before the quarter ended with Ethan Kennedy taking a Blazier pass 28 yards back for a TD.
“Ethan always plays tough for us. I was glad to see him get into the end zone,” Dindl said. “He does all the dirty work and sometimes doesn’t get the glory. He’s doing a great job covering for us at cornerback, a great kid who’s always working hard.”
Dindl was pleased to see his defense make a few splash plays after allowing 56 points to the Campers.
“Last week we had a little bit of a rough time but they answered, made some plays and did a much better job,” Dindl said. “We kind of called them out at practice that we need to step up on this side of the ball a little bit.”
Sam Evans, who was eight for nine on extra-point kicks, made his fourth of the opening frame to give the visitors a commanding 28-0 lead heading into the second quarter.
Pegg scored on a 1-yard run 17 seconds into the second quarter to make it 35-0 before Camden Whittington got Clear Spring on the board with a 1-yard touchdown run.
Pegg scored his fifth TD on an 11-yard run with 3:26 left in the half. Whitingham made it 42-14 with a 13-yard scoring run but AG countered with a 27-yard touchdown burst by Guesman for a 48-14 advantage at intermission.
Roman Smith’s 8-yard touchdown run midway through the third quarter gave Albert Gallatin a 55-14 lead and put the mercy rule into effect.
The Blazers got touchdown runs of 19 and 13 yards from Noah Doyle in the fourth quarter.
The Colonials’ Bobby Panos capped the scoring with a 90-yard kickoff return for a TD, his third of the season which is tops among area players.
Jamison racked up his 118 rushing yards on just four carries, including one of 64 yards, and completed the only two passes he threw, both to Pegg, for 92 yards. Pegg also had five carries for 41 yards.
Guesman also carried five times for 67 yards.
The Colonials had 241 rushing yards on 17 attempts.
