Local roundup: Frazier defeats California, wraps up 18th volleyball section title

The trophy case has to be getting pretty full when it comes to girls volleyball at Frazier High School.
The Lady Commodores wrapped up their 18th section championship in 21 years with a 3-1 victory at California on Tuesday night.
Coach Mandy Hartman’s squad improved to 7-0 in Section 4-A and 10-3 overall.
Frazier won by scores of 25-10, 25-21, 23-25 and 25-16.
Maddie Salisbury led the way for the Lady Commodores with 25 kills, seven blocks and 12 service points.
Morgan Fisher totaled 20 assists and 15 service points for Frazier which also got six kills and five blocks from Addison Schultz, 17 digs from Grace Polkabla, 13 digs from Addison Hiles and 10 assists from Allie Monack.
California (6-2, 12-3) remains in second place.
Laurel Highlands 3, Albert Gallatin 0 — Sara Reed had 20 assists, 18 digs, three aces and two kills in the Lady Mustangs’ Section 3-3A win at Albert Gallatin.
Scores were 25-13, 25-20 and 25-18.
Diondra Brown led a balanced attack by Laurel Highlands (7-2, 8-5) with six kills along with 17 digs and seven blocks. Addie Ciez had five kills and nine digs, Harlie Dirda had four kills, 10 digs, three blocks and three aces and Brinley Duncan had four kills and two blocks for LH, which also got three kills, 14 digs, two assists and three aces from Esther Waqanivalu and five digs from Kayla Howell.
Ellie Seese had six kills and Mika Giachetti had four kills for the Lady Colonials (0-10, 1-12) who also got five digs and two kills from Mikayla Shea and four kills, six assists and two aces from Paityn Goletz.
Brownsville 3, Bentworth 1 — Skyler Gates rang up 10 kills, five blocks and 11 service points and AiJanae Foster had a game-high 14 kills as the Lady Falcons defeated the host Lady Bearcats in a Section 3-2A match.
Scores were 25-17, 25-14, 24-26 and 25-18.
Second-place Brownsville (10-1, 13-1) plays at first-place Waynesburg Central on Thursday. The Lady Raiders won the first meeting, 3-0, at Brownsville.
Kenzie Adams had 17 assists and 12 service points, and Ashley Evanchak had 20 digs for the Lady Falcons, who also got five blocks from Abigale Thomas and 12 assists and 13 service points from Nataya Williams.
Addison Pysh led Bentworth (3-8, 6-9) with 13 kills, Sofia Gaussa had eight kills and eight digs and Zoie McDonald had 17 assists and five aces.
Waynesburg Central 3, Burgettstown 0 — Ani Cree had 18 kills and three aces, Chatham Knight had 19 assists and three aces and Gina Tedrow had 17 assists as the Lady Raiders remained undefeated with a sweep of the Lady Blue Devils in a Section 3-2A match.
Waynesburg (11-0, 14-0) also got seven kills, seven digs and two assists from Railey Bochna, five kills, five digs and four aces from Harper Grimes, three kills and seven digs from Lelia McCollum and two kills and six digs from Emily Rafferty.
Carmichaels 3, Mapletown 0 — The Lady Mikes (4-3, 5-11) triumphed over the host Lady Maples in a Section 3-A match
Scores were 25-14, 25-21 and 25-22.
Treslee Weston had eight kills, five digs and three aces and Marley Shiflett had 14 assists, two kills and two digs for Mapletown (2-5, 4-9), which also got 11 digs and two kills from Makenna Lotspeich and four kills and eight digs from Rowan Eisiminger.
Jefferson-Morgan 3, Avella 0 — Ava Wood had nine kills and 11 digs in the Lady Rockets’ Section 3-A win at Avella (0-7, 1-13).
Emilee Bazzoli added 16 digs, Kelsey Vessels had 12 digs and Mallory McManis chipped in with 12 assists for J-M (3-4, 5-7).
Boys soccer
Laurel Highlands 8, McKeesport 0 — Cole Radcliffe had a hat trick and broke the Mustangs’ single-season record for goals in a Section 2-3A victory over the visiting Tigers (1-11, 2-13).
Jack Nairn also recorded a hat trick and Chase Hall contributed a pair of goals for Laurel Highlands (5-6, 9-6) which got assists from Jett Yauger, Dan O’Neal, Mason Cicci and Elliot Boor.
Goalkeepers O’Neal, Matt Komacko and Toby Downs combined on the shutout.
Penn-Trafford 4, Uniontown 1 — Noah Haslam had two goals and an assist as the visiting Warriors (6-3, 9-6) beat the Red Raiders in a Section 3-3A match.
Braylon Woods knocked in the lone goal for Uniontown (1-7, 5-11), which got 23 saves from Noah Holland and two from Lucas Mihalko.
Mount Pleasant 4, Waynesburg Central 0 — Tyke Snyder had two goals as the host Vikings defeated the Raiders (4-7-1, 4-8-1) in a Section 4-2A match.
Bryson Bankosh and Gavin Rummel added one goal apiece for Mount Pleasant (11-1, 12-4). Goalkeeper Grayson Gardner got credit for the shutout.
Bentworth 10, Beth-Center 0 — Ryan Moessner and Billy Moyer both had hat tricks as the first-place Bearcats completed a sweep through Section 2-A play and remained unbeaten on the season with a victory over the visiting Bulldogs (4-2, 8-6).
Blake Lusk added a pair of goals for Bentworth (8-0, 15-0) which also got one goal each from Adam Moessner and Jude Laskey. Goalkeeper Isaac Vipperman recorded the shutout.
The Bearcats led 4-0 at halftime.
Southmoreland 9, Brownsville 0 — Jack Smith notched a hat trick as the host Scotties (7-5, 8-8) blanked the Falcons (1-11, 3-13) in a Section 4-2A match.
