H.S. football roundup: Rockets, Scotties remain unbeaten at 5-0

Deakyn DeHoet scored three touchdowns and Triton Farabee tossed a pair of scoring passes as Jefferson-Morgan gradually pulled away from visiting Carmichaels for a 33-0 victory in a Class A Tri-County South Conference game on Friday night.
The Rockets remain unbeaten at 5-0 overall and improved to 2-0 in the TCS. The Mikes fall to 0-2 in the conference and 1-3 overall.
DeHoet opened the scoring with an 8-yard TD run in the first quarter and Logan Yeck added the first of three extra points he made in four attempts.
DeHoet struck again in the second quarter with a 58-yard touchdown run to make it 14-0 at halftime.
Farabee threw a 50-yard TD pass to Seth Fox in the third quarter as J-M built a 21-0 advantage through three quarters.
Farabeen connected with DeHoet on a 30-yard touchdown pass to make it 27-0 with 9:19 left in the game.
Alex Palko capped the scoring for the Rockets with a 10-yard TD run with 37 seconds remaining in the game.
Will Murray led the Mikes with 12 carries for 43 yards and Job Smith made six tackles.
Southmoreland 28, Ringgold 7 — Jackson Mickens scored a pair of touchdowns and Averyon Darnell had 14 carries for 91 yards to help the Class 3A Scotties keep their record perfect with a non-conference home victory over the Class 4A Rams.
Liam Smith booted a pair of field goals for Southmoreland which improved to 5-0 under first-year coach Dustin Shoaf. Ringgold’s record dropped to 3-2.
After a scoreless first quarter, Southmoreland took a 7-0 lead on Mickens’ 9-yard touchdown run and Smith’s extra point early in the second quarter.
Ringgold (3-2) pulled even on Dennis Hawkins’ 20-yard TD run and Billy Cameron’s extra point less than two minutes later and the score remained 7-7 at halftime.
The Scotties went ahead to stay, 15-7, on Dawson Wolfe’s 1-yard touchdown run and Mickens’ two-point conversion run with 9:17 left in the third quarter. Smith booted a 26-yard field goal at the 4:20 mark of the quarter to make it a two-score game at 18-7.
Smith knocked through another field goal with 8:03 left in the fourth quarter, this one from 33 yards out, to increase the Scotties’ lead to 21-7.
Jackson put the game away with a 32-yard interception return for a score with 4:05 left.
Wolfe completed 8 of 15 passes for 72 yards with three going to Stanley Betters for 36 yards.
Hawkins connected on 11 of 19 passes for 103 yards with two interceptions, by Mickens and Ty Whoric. Demetri Lowe had six receptions for 76 yards.
Southmoreland’s defense limited the Rams to just 41 rushing yards on 21 carries.
Conotton Valley (Ohio) 46, Brownsville 7 — Kaden Leggett threw four touchdown passes to Kaden Wright, including three in the first quarter, as the Rockets triumphed over the host Falcons in a non-conference game at Redstone Field.
Wright had TD catches of 15, 24 and 47 yards in the opening frame which ended with Conotton Valley (4-2) ahead 20-0.
Jack Owens’ 16-yard touchdown run in the second quarter gave Conotton Valley a 26-0 halftime lead.
Leggett’s fourth touchdown pass to Wright came in the third quarter from 7 yards out to make it 34-0 and Gavin Haney’s 1-yard TD plunge later in the quarter made it 40-0 heading into the fourth quarter.
Brownsville (0-4) scored its lone touchdown on a 1-yard run by Exzavier Vargas in the fourth quarter with Max Dieudonne adding the PAT.
Haney ran the ensuing kickoff back 70 yards for a touchdown to set the final score.
Kaden Wimmer completed 10 of 12 passes for 121 yards with five going to Silas Patterson for 27 yards. Vargas had 13 carries for 55 yards and the TD.
West Greene 40, Mapletown 0 — The Pioneers picked up their first win of the season as freshman quarterback Joel Rizor ran for four touchdowns and threw for another in a Class A Tri-County South game against the Maples at Kennedy Field.
Rizer scored on a 1-yard run in the first quarter and on jaunts of 30 and 18 yards in the second quarter as West Greene built a 21-0 halftime lead.
Rizor threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Matt Wassil in the third quarter and the Pioneers (1-1, 1-4) added two more scores in the frame on an 8-yard run by Kyan Beraerdi-Stockett and a 50-yard burst by Rizor.
Colin Whyte kicked two extra points and Mark Gaines had a two-point conversion run for West Greene.
Mapletown is now 0-2 in the TCS and 1-4 overall.
Bentworth 42, Beth-Center 7 — Ben Hays ran for 261 yards and four rushing touchdowns, one in each quarter, in the Bearcats’ Class A Tri-County South victory over the visiting Bulldogs.
Hays, who also intercepted a pass, scored on runs of 64 yards in the first quarter, 30 yards in the second quarter, 4 yards in the third quarter and 38 yards in the fourth quarter.
Bentworth (1-1, 3-2) also got TD runs of 3 yards from Preston Jaquay and 8 yards from Ty Watson, both in the second quarter, as the host surged to a 28-7 halftime lead.
Cameron Krejci, Gavin Haynes and Quincy Brown each recorded a sack for the Bearcats. Caden Hackinson converted all six of his extra-point kicks.
Beth-Center (1-1, 1-4) actually scored first on a first-quarter touchdown run by Homer Headley with Hunter Bobbs’ kicking the extra point.
South Fayette 28, Belle Vernon 7 — Daniel Speca returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown to kickstart the Lions who went on to defeat the visiting Leopards in a non-conference game.
South Fayette (4-1) extended its lead to 21-0 by halftime with second-quarter touchdowns by Drew Welhorsky on a 37-yard pass from Braeden Plasko and Aayden Wright on a 1-yard plunge.
Curtis Wade’s 1-yard touchdown run later in the second quarter and Preston Rathway’s extra point got Belle Vernon (1-3) to within 21-7 by halftime but it would get no closer.
The only score of the second half came on Wright’s 78-yard interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter.
The Leopards’ Chase Petrosky rushed for 108.
Morgantown (W.Va.) 48, Connellsville 21 — The unbeaten Mohigans got four touchdown runs from Isaiah Thompson and out-scored Connellsville 27-0 in the second half to break a 21-21 tie and improve to 4-0 in a non-conference clash at Falcon Stadium.
The Falcons (1-4) struck first with Caden Matthews’ 40-yard touchdown pass to Christian Thomas and Hunter Brown’s first of three extra-point kicks giving the hosts a 7-0 lead.
Carter Cooper struck twice soon after for Morgantown with touchdowns on an 84-yard kickoff return and an 81-yard pass from Maddox Twigg to put the visitors in front 14-7 after one quarter.
Connellsville tied in at 14-14 on Matthews’ 1-yard run in the second quarter.
Thompson put the Mohigans ahead on a 13-yard TD run later in the quarter but the Falcons tied it again on Matthews’ 33-yard scoring pass to Thomas.
Morgantown took control in the third quarter thanks to Thompson who had TD runs of 37, 77 and 14 to make it 41-21 heading into the fourth quarter.
Cooper’s 3-yard touchdown run capped the game’s scoring.
Steel Valley 34, Waynesburg Central 0 — The Ironmen shut out the visiting Raiders in a non-conference game.
Waynesburg falls to 2-3 while Steel Valley improves to 3-2.
Clairton 72, Frazier 0 — The top-ranked Bears (2-0, 3-1) exploded past the visiting Commodores in a Class A Eastern Conference game.
Clairton ups its record to 2-0 in the section and 3-1 overall. Frazier falls to 0-2 and 2-3.
