Shriver, Hudson lead Yellow Jackets in rout of Thiel
Carson Shriver rushed for 161 yards and three touchdowns and Luke Hudson threw for another three scores as Waynesburg University routed host Thiel in a PAC football game Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 2-0 in the conference and 2-2 overall. The Topcats fell to 0-2 and 0-4.
Waynesburg’s Mutwali Stewart recovered a Thiel onside kick to start the game and the Yellow Jackets drove 46 yards in five plays, 30 coming on a pass by Hudson to Carmichaels graduate Tyler Richmond, for the opening score of the game which came on Shriver’s 3-yard run.
Thiel tied late in the first quarter on Deon Logan’s 7-yard touchdown run.
Waynesburg seized control of the game by out-scoring the Tomcats 17-0 in the second quarter to take a 24-7 halftime lead.
Hudson’s 23-yard touchdown pass to Southmoreland graduate Isaac Trout made it 14-7 and Thiel’s mishandling of the ensuing kickoff resulted in a safety that put the Yellow Jackets ahead 16-7. The free kick that followed went out of bounds, giving Waynesburg the ball at the 50-yard line and four plays later Shriver scored on a 2-yard touchdown run and Hudson completed a two-point conversion pass to make it 24-7.
The Yellow Jackets pushed their lead up to 31-7 on Shriver’s third TD run of the game, again from 2 yards out with 5:40 left in the third quarter.
Thiel answered with a quick strike on Logan’s 85-yard touchdown run to pull the hosts within 31-14.
Hudson finished the scoring with fourth-quarter touchdown passes of 43 yards to Elija Jackson and 16 yards to Trout.
Hudson completed 13 of 15 passes for 203 yards, the three touchdowns and one interception.
Trout (75 yards), Jackson (55 yards) and Richmond (46 yards) each had three receptions.
Joanes Polynice had an interception for Waynesburg.
Logan led Thiel with 146 rushing yards.
