Roaring Lions drop pair to Greater Allegheny

Penn State Greater Allegheny scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning and went on to defeat visiting Penn State Fayette, 10-5, to complete a doubleheader sweep in PSUAC baseball action Saturday.

Allegheny, which won the opener 7-2, also took two from the Roaring Lions on Friday by scores of 12-2 and 13-4.

Fayette took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first of the second game on bases-loaded walks by James Knapton and Tyler Marra.

Allegheny answered in the bottom of the inning to go up 6-2 with the big blows in the rally coming on a two-run triple by Julian Santiago and a two-run double by Eric Valentin.

Fayette trailed 7-2 when it rallied for three runs in the fifth to pull within two. Remington Lessman homered homered in the frame and the Roaring Lions also got an RBI double from Hunter Smiley and a run-scoring single from Lucas Vilchez.

Allegheny pushed the lead back up to five with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

In Saturday’s first game, Allegheny scored twice in the first inning and twice in the third to go up 4-0 before Fayette plated its lone two runs in the fourth on run-scoring singles by Frank Macioce and Manny Stitch.
