Ava Clark hurled a one-hitter with 15 strikeouts to lead Brownsville to a key Section 2-A softball victory over host Washington on Friday.

It was the first section loss for the Lady Prexies (3-1, 7-2) who fell out of a first-place tie with Bentworth. The Lady Falcons moved into sole possession of third place with the win, 1/2 game in front of Waynesburg Central and one game in front of Frazier.

Lyla Gill singled twice and drove in two runs for Brownsville (3-2, 5-3), which also got two hits from Zaydee Downer.

The Lady Falcons scored one run in the first inning and the score stayed that way until the visitors tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the seventh.

Kieran Wormsley had the lone hit for Washington. Losing pitcher Chessa Henderson allowed seven hits and struck out nine.

UNIONTOWN 13, BELLE VERNOIN 4 – Emmaleigh Noah had two hits and five RBIs and was the winning pitcher as the Lady Raiders picked up an important Section 2-4A victory over the host Lady Leopards.

Uniontown (3-3, 5-3), which moved in front of Belle Vernon into sole possession of fourth place in the section, scored three runs in both the first and second innings to build a 6-1 lead and stayed in control the rest of the way.

Juliet White had three hits, including a triple, and two RBIs, Sincere Dunlop added a double, single and two RBIs and Lauren White chipped in with two doubles and an RBI for the Lady Raiders, who also got two hits and an RBI from Alivia Noah and a double and two RBIs from Gracie Rodeheaver.

Emmaleigh Noah allowed two earned runs on 11 hits with one walk and eight strikeouts.

Paisley Hibner knocked in two runs with a home run and a single for the Lady Leopards (3-5, 5-6), who also got a triple from Kaylee Sypolt, two hits and an RBI from Mailey Hayes and a pair of singles from Ava Jones.

Willow Wentzell took the loss.

MOUNT PLEASANT 15, LIGONIER VALLEY 14 – Kendra Brunson’s walk-off, two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the host Lady Vikings a dramatic win over the Lady Rams in a back-and-forth Section 1-3A battle.

The score was tied 2-2 when Ligonier Valley exploded for six runs in the fourth inning. After Mount Pleasant cut the gap to two with a four-run fifth, the Lady Rams extended the lead to five runs with three runs in the top of the sixth.

The Lady Vikings then erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to go up 13-11, only to have Ligonier Valley retake the lead, 14-13, with three runs in the top of the seventh.

That just set the stage for Brunson, who was 3 for 5 with a double and five RBIs. Winning pitcher Danica Trainer walked, Jenna Whipkey singled and Emma Miller was hit by a pitch to set the stage for Brunson, who singled up the middle to end it.

Sadie Poole was 4 for 5 with a triple, double and two RBIs and Whipkey had three hits with a triple and two RBIs for Mount Pleasant (5-0, 7-1).

Trainer gave up 11 hits and 14 runs but only two were earned as the Lady Vikings committed five errors. She walked one and struck out seven.

Marlee Miller had four hits, including a double, and three RBIs for the Lady Rams (1-3, 3-5), who also got three hits with a double and two RBIs from Elyse Witcoski.

WEST GREENE 11, AVELLA 0 – Sammia Zimmerman threw a one-hitter and Emmaline Beazell had two hits and three RBIs in the Lady Pioneers’ five-inning, Section 2-A victory over the visiting Lady Eagles.

Zimmerman walked none while striking out 11.

Josie Mason doubled and knocked in two runs for West Greene (4-1, 7-3), which also got two hits from Madelyn Roberts and two RBIs from Caitlin Whyte.

Kaylee Donnelly had the only hit for Avella (0-2, 0-5). Paisley Downey was the losing pitcher.

BETH-CENTER 12, MAPLETOWN 1 – Sarah Bader had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs in the Lady Bulldogs’ Section 2-A victory over the Lady Maples.

Winning pitcher Kendall Welsh added a double, two singles and an RBI and Keira Lamp smacked a triple and knocked in three runs for Beth-Center (2-3, 3-5).

Makenna Lotspeich doubled for Mapletown (0-5, 1-6).

CONNELLSVILLE 12, BETHEL PARK 7 – Cali Leichliter was 4 for 5 with a home run and five RBIs in the Lady Falcons’ Section 4-5A win over the Lady Black Hawks.

Kaylee Roadman was 4 for 4 with a double and scored three runs and Kalyn Cole added a double and three RBIs for Connellsville (3-3, 7-3), which also got two hits from Rylee Dreves.

Winning pitcher Halle Parfitt surrendered four earned runs on 10 hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

Brooke Priddy had two hits, including a double, and an RBI for Bethel Park (0-5, 3-8).

OAKLAND CATHOLIC 14, LAUREL HIGHLANDS 4 – Kennedy Waffensmith had three RBIs and was the winning pitcher as Oakland Catholic (1-4, 1-4) beat the Fillies in a Section 2-4A game.

Payton Senge was 3 for 3 with an RBI for Laurel Highlands (4-3, 4-3) which also got a home run from Aubrey Speelman.

SOUTHMORELAND 5, DEER LAKES 4 – Ava Kloock’s run-scoring double in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted the Lady Scotties to a Section 1-3A victory over visiting Deer Lakes (2-3, 5-4).

Zoey Murphy hit a home run and Makayla Brown had two doubles, a single and two RBIs for Southmoreland (1-5, 2-8).

Joey Adams had two doubles and an RBI for Deer Lakes.

BASEBALL

CONNELLSVILLE 7, SOUTHMORELAND 6 – Linkon Keller smacked a triple and a double and had five RBIs in the Falcons’ non-section victory over the Scotties.

Lee Jackson had three hits and an RBI for Connellsville (3-7).

Southmoreland (1-9) got RBIs from Lane Keefer and Peyton Bann.

JEFFERSON-MORGAN 7, CHARLEROI 2 – Winning pitcher Brayden Ellsworth and Dayten Marion both had a single and two RBIs as the visiting Rockets soared past the Cougars (3-4) in a non-section game.

Deakyn DeHoet added a double and an RBI and Drew Admas also drove in a run for J-M (3-7). Ellsworth gave up five hits with three walks and six strikeout in a tossing a complete game.

Luke Henderson had two hits and an RBI for Charleroi.

CARLYNTON 17, MAPLETOWN 2 – Isaac Anker and Tyler Heinrich both had three RBIs as the Cougars (2-6) beat the Maples in a non-section game.

Coltin Halbert had two hits, including a double, and an RBI and Carson Vanata singled and scored for Mapletown (0-9).

YOUGH 16, FRAZIER 12 – Jake Williams went 5 for 5 with four RBIs and John Steban was 4 for 4 with two RBIs as the Cougars (6-2) out-slugged the Commodores in a non-section clash.

Noah Bachinski had three hits and an RBI for Frazier (4-5), which also got two hits, including a double, from Eli Cernuska.

FLAG FOOTBALL

UNIONTOWN 32, CLAIRTON 6 – Lyric McLee accounted for five touchdowns as the Lady Raiders romped over Clairton in a Section 2 game.

McLee passed for 172 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 65 yards and another TD. Aierra Jenkins had nine receptions for 85 yards and a pair of touchdowns and Aubree Long reeled in five passes for 47 yards and two TDs for Uniontown.

BOYS TENNIS

SOUTH PARK 4, MOUNT PLEASANT 1 – Eagles triumphed over the Vikings in a non-section match.

Mount Pleasant’s lone win came at No. 2 doubles where Derrick Smith and Logan Hause topped Marshall Kirk and Chase Hammack, 6-1, 6-0.
