Lady Vikings finish sweep of section play
Mount Pleasant dropped its softball season opener to Berlin Brothersvalley a month ago.
The Lady Vikings haven’t lost since.
While the Lady Mountaineers have gone on to post a 10-1 record, Mount Pleasant notched its 13th win in a row on Thursday, 11-1 over Ligonier Valley, to complete a sweep of Section 1-3A play.
Kendra Brunson went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs, Carly Surma doubled and singled and winning pitcher Danica Trainer had two hits and an RBI for the Lady Vikings (10-0, 13-1).
Mount Pleasant also got a single and two RBIs from both Gracie Etling and Chloe Borelli, a double and an RBI from Sadie Poole and two hits from Emma Miller.
Trainer pitched a five-hitter with no walks and seven strikeouts.
The Lady Rams (1-7, 4-9) got two doubles from Maggie Peters and two hits from Elyse Witcoski.
NORTHERN GARRETT (MD.) 4, ALBERT GALLATIN 1 – Demi Ross tripled and scored a run in the Lady Huskies’ non-section win over the host Lady Colonials.
Losing pitcher Jenna Myers had a single and an RBI and Maggie Quertinmont singled and scored the only run for Albert Gallatin (1-14).
Myers allowed six hits and one walk with 11 strikeouts.
UPPER ST. CLAIR 7, SOUTHMORELAND 6 – Nora Stutzman run-scoring, walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh gave the Lady Panthers a non-section victory over the visiting Lady Scotties.
Caroline Barnard homered and Geneva Eisinger and Alexa Demas had three hits apiece for Upper St. Clair (7-7).
Zoey Murphy homered, doubled and singled for Southmoreland (3-12), which also got two triples, a single and three RBIs from Makayla Brown.
BASEBALL
JEFFERSON-MORGAN 10, BROWNSVILLE 0 – Winning pitcher John Woodward was 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and combined with Brayden Ellsworth on a five-inning, two-hit shutout in a non-section game.
Woodward gave up one hit and two walks with eight strikeouts in four innings and Ellsworth allowed one hit and no walks with one strikeout in tossing the final frame.
Evan Kniha also was 3 for 3 with two RBIs, Drew Adams doubled, singled and drove in two runs and Ellsworth and Tyler McVay had two hits apiece for Jefferson-Morgan (9-6) which has won seven in a row.
Jalen Blair and Cooper Cetera had the only hits for Brownsville (3-10).
NORTHERN GARRETT (MD.) 7, ALBERT GALLATIN 3 – Jake Chambers had two hits and two RBIs as the Huskies beat the Colonials in a non-section game.
Cole Smith singled and knocked in two runs for Albert Gallatin (1-12), which also got a double from Kanyon Sutton and two hits each from Kaiden Brady and Kayden Perrez.
OUR LADY OF THE SACRED HEART 11, BETH-CENTER 0 – Dean Douglass was a home run short of hitting for a cycle and had two RBIs as the Chargers (9-5) defeated the Bulldogs in a non-section game.
Brady Bebout had two hits for Beth-Center (1-10).
