Milsom sparks LH in win over Ligonier Valley

Aiden Milsom had two hits, including a two-run single in a three-run first inning, as Laurel Highlands knocked off visiting Ligonier Valley, 4-2, in a non-section baseball clash on Saturday.

Nick Crouch doubled and singled and Sevi Vecchiolla also had two hits for the Mustangs (4-9), who also got a single and an RBI from Noah Lion.

Crouch hit a lead-off single in the first, stole second, took third on Braylon Schoch’s sacrifice bunt then stole home to give LH a 1-0 lead. Milsom’s two-out hit later in the inning made it 3-0.

The Rams (6-8) scored once in the third and once in the fifth to get within one run. Crouch doubled and scored on Lion’s single in the bottom of the inning to set the final score.

Winning pitcher Andrew Gallick gave up just one run on one hit in four innings in relief of starter Ramaree Morgan, who allowed one unearned run on two hits in three innings.

UNIONTOWN 12, CARMICHAELS 3 – Elim Martin had a hit and two RBIs and Brayden Hinzy doubled and singled in the Red Raiders’ non-section win over the host Mikes on Friday.

Adam Cramer had two hits and Shane Kelly also knocked in two runs for Uniontown (6-8) which got a single and an RBI apiece from Ethan White and Lane Smiley.

Dominic Yazzani had a triple and an RBI for Carmichaels (5-8), which also got doubles from Cannon Bupka and Scottie Maskil and a run-scoring single from Jordan Davis.

GEIBEL CATHOLIC 8, MAPLETOWN 1 – Zane Hixson drove in three runs with a single, double and triple and was the winning pitcher in the visiting Gators’ non-section victory over the Maples.

Hixson allowed two hits and two walks with 10 strikeouts in four scoreless innings. Eahn Stevenson gave up one run on two its with two walks and six strikeouts in tossing the final three frames to earn the save.

Stevenson added a double and a triple with two RBIs.

Losing pitcher Carson Vanata surrendered four runs on five hits with three walks and 10 strikeouts in five innings and also singled for Mapletown (2-13).

WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 12, ALBERT GALLATIN 2 – Lucas Slifko had two doubles and three RBIs in the Raiders’ five-inning, non-section victory over the Colonials.

Jarett Tretinik had two hits and two RBIs and Austin Surber doubled and knocked in two runs for Waynesburg (5-9), which also got a double and an RBI each from Jeffrey Blair and Kory Taylor.

Winning pitcher DJ Reese gave up five hits in tossing a complete game.

Evan Weakland and Kanyon Sutton both doubled for Albert Gallatin (1-13), which also got a single and an RBI from Ben Lilley.

NORWIN 13, CONNELLSVILLE 3 – Keegan Lott had a double and two RBIs but the Falcons (6-10) lost to the Knights (10-5) in a non-section game.

BELLE VERNON 9, MOUNT PLEASANT 2 – Connor Bergman was 4 for 4 with three doubles and three RBIs and Chace Petrosky had three hits, including a triple, and two RBIs in the Leopards’ non-section win over the Vikings.

Zach Plymire, Vincenzo Francia and Nate Kostelnik each added a hit and an RBI for Belle Vernon (10-3).

Winning pitcher Ian Porter gave up two runs on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.

RINGGOLD 12, CALIFORNIA 0 – Dylan Bartkus and Gavin Angotti drove in three runs apiece and Xander Mahoney had two RBIs as the Rams (7-9) triumphed over the host Trojans (10-4) in a non-section game.

Landon Abercrombie and Chase Shemansky had the only hits for California.
