Local roundup: B-C’s Trump scores 1,000 point in win over Bentworth

It didn’t take long for the celebration to begin at Beth-Center on Monday night.
Lady Bulldogs senior Violet Trump needed just two points to reach 1,000 for her career entering B-C’s Section 3-2A girls basketball game against Bentworth.
She took all of 23 seconds to drop in the milestone bucket.
That was just the beginning for Trump who turned in a double-double with 20 points and 16 rebounds as the Lady Bulldogs held off a fourth-quarter push from the Lady Bearcats to secure a 52-46 victory.
Beth-Center, which has clinched a WPIAL playoff spot, sits in third place with a 6-3 record and is 10-9 overall.
The game was tied 12-12 after the first quarter but the Lady Bulldogs surged to a 29-22 halftime lead and held a 41-29 advantage after three.
Bentworth (3-5, 8-11) held a 17-11 edge in the final frame.
Alexia Fischer added nine points for Beth-Center and Bailey Bernot contributed seven points and 11 rebounds.
Belle Moyer had 16 points for the Lady Bearcats, who also got 10 from Beielle Dillon.
BELLE VERNON 58, MOUNT PLEASANT 26 — Aubrey Brown totaled 12 points and eight rebounds and Lyla McConnell also scored 12 points as the Lady Leopards clinched at least a tie for first place in Section 3-4A with a victory over the visiting Lady Vikings.
The section championship is Belle Vernon’s first since 1999.
Belle Vernon (12-1, 18-3) led 11-9, 26-16 and 41-24 at the quarter breaks.
Saylor Lee had six steals for the Lady Leopards and Abby Russell contributed six assists.
Ryleigh Drzal led Mount Pleasant (6-7, 9-11) with 10 points.
LAUREL HIGHLANDS 29, RINGGOLD 20 — The Lady Mustangs kept their playoff hopes alive with a Section 3-4A victory at Ringgold.
Taylor Schwertfeger scored a game-high 21 points for Laurel Highlands which improved to 5-8 in the section and 7-14 overall.
Jada Gernot had nine points for the Lady Rams, who fell to 5-7 and 8-10.
Both teams trail fourth-place Mount Pleasant (6-7). The top five teams in the section qualify for the postseason.
The Lady Mustangs trailed in the defensive battle 2-0 after the first quarter but rode a 10-4 second to a 10-6 halftime lead. Laurel Highlands held a 19-14 advantage after three quarters and out-scored the hosts 10-6 in the fourth to wrap up the win.
PETERS TOWNSHIP 46, UNIONTOWN 40 — Taylor McCullough tossed in 18 points and the Lady Indians out-scored host Uniontown 16-6 in the fourth quarter to pull out a Section 4-5A victory.
Peters Township (5-6, 11-9) led 8-4 after the first quarter but the Lady Raiders (2-8, 9-10) moved out to leads of 20-17 at halftime and 34-30 after three.
Alina Sopko had 14 points for the Lady Indians.
Aierra Jenkins topped Uniontown in scoring with 17 points. Charley Murtha added 10 points and Lyric McLee had nine.
GEIBEL CATHOLIC 76, MONESSEN 21 — Emma Larkin and Mallory Clemmer each poured in 23 points as the first-place Lady Gators defeated the host Lady Greyhounds in a Section 2-A game.
Janiah Darnell followed with 14 points for Geibel, which improved to 12-0 in the section and 19-0 overall.
Madison Johnson and Na’Jaziah Carter both had six points for Monessen (5-5, 7-9).
BROWNSVILLE 47, CHARLEROI 24 — Ava Clark rang up a game-high 20 points and the host Lady Falcons held Charleroi scoreless in taking a 15-0 lead in the first quarter in earning a Section 3-3A victory.
Brownsville (1-11, 6-15) led 19-7 at halftime and 29-11 after three quarters in claiming its first section win of the season.
Ciara Horabik added 10 points for the Lady Falcons.
Eden Smith led the way for the Lady Cougars (1-9, 5-13).
CHARTIERS-HOUSTON 51, CARMICHAELS 12 — Ali Wingard scored 17 points in the first-place Lady Buccaneers’ Section 3-2A win over the visiting Lady Mikes.
Ava Kolovich added 12 points for Chartiers-Houston (8-0, 16-3).
Bentley Lukacs had four points for Carmichaels (0-8, 1-18).
WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 58, KEYSTONE OAKS 55 — Peyton Cowell churned out 17 points to help the host Lady Raiders fend off the Golden Eagles in a Section 3-3A clash.
Keystone Oaks led 16-15 after the first quarter but Waynesburg (9-2, 17-2) took a 29-24 advantage into halftime. The Golden Eagles (5-5, 10-8) pulled even at 48-48 in the third quarter before the second-place Lady Raiders secured the victory with a 10-7 edge in the fourth.
Tess Pauley followed Cowell with 14 points and Addonae Johnson added 11.
Kailyn Brannon dropped in 21 points for Keystone Oaks, which also got 16 points apiece from Natalee Tortorella and Hannah York.
SERRA CATHOLIC 71, WEST GREENE 36 — Niki Sfanos hit four of the Lady Eagles’ 10 3-pointers in tallying 19 points and Bella Domnoski also scored 19 points in a Section 2-A win over the visiting Lady Pioneers.
Lexi Pearce and Abby Genes followed with 13 points apiece for second-place Serra (10-1, 12-5).
Kendra Tharp paced third-place West Greene (8-4, 13-6) with 10 points.
MOUNT LEBANON 50, CONNELLSVILLE 32 — Anessa Donoghue scored 14 points as visiting Mount Lebanon (3-6, 5-13) knocked off the Lady Falcons in a Section 2-6A game.
Macey Orndorff had 10 points for Connellsville (1-7, 5-14).
TRINITY 62, SOUTHMORELAND 11 — Sutton Williamson tallied 17 points as the Lady Hillers beat the host Lady Colonials in a Section 4-5A game.
Vitt Emerich added 14 points for Trinity (7-4, 14-5).
Mikayla Shea led the way for Albert Gallatin (0-12, 0-18) with 13 points.
CALIFORNIA 54, JEFFERSON-MORGAN 26 — Lila Mitchell racked up 25 points in the Lady Trojans’ Section 3-2A victory at Jefferson-Morgan.
Hayley Gibson followed with 16 points for second-place California (7-1, 10-8).
Brelynn Wood led the Lady Rockets (1-7, 8-12) with 13 points.
APOLLO-RIDGE 58, FRAZIER 46 — Madison Hughley had 26 points in the Lady Rams’ Section 4-2A win at Frazier.
Mikaila Ditty dropped in 18 points for Apollo-Ridge (4-4. 10-10).
Emersyn Roebuck topped the Lady Commodores (1-6, 4-12) with 15 points and Allie Yauch added 13.
CLAIRTON 65, MAPLETOWN 27 — Karma Fuqua dropped in 25 points in the Lady Bears’ Section 2-A win at Mapletown.
Jamiya Brownfield followed with 22 points for Clairton (4-8, 7-9).
Lainey Taylor tallied seven points for the Lady Maples (1-11, 2-18).
SOUTH PARK 62, SOUTHMORELAND 11 — Belle Strombert scored 32 points as the first-place Lady Eagles (10-2, 13-7) beat the visiting Lady Scotties in a Section 3-4A game.
Hayley Bennett chipped in with 16 points.
Leah Moore had three points for Southmoreland (0-13, 1-20).
BOYS BASKETBALL
CHARLEORI 67, WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 53 — Xavion Thomas scored 16 points and the Cougars turned a tie game into a 13-point advantage in the second quarter on their way to a key Section 4-3A win over the visiting Raiders.
Charleroi (5-3, 11-9) moved ahead of Waynesburg (4-4, 6-12) into sole possession of third place with the Raiders dropping into fourth. Both teams have qualified for the postseason.
The score was tied 11-11 after the first quarter but Charleroi out-scored Waynesburg 26-13 in the second for a 37-24 halftime lead. The Cougars built their cushion up to 56-38 in the third quarter.
Jackson Keranko tossed in 11 points for Charleroi
Cole Headlee paced Waynesburg with a game-high 21 points along with four assists. Jackson Dean totaled 12 points and eight rebounds and Austin Surber added 12 points and seven boards. Dan Woods chipped in with five points and seven rebounds.
CENTRAL CATHOLIC 64, CONNELLSVILLE 39 — Enzo Khalil scored a game-high 27 points as Central Catholic (11-1, 17-2) beat the host Falcons in a Section 2-6A game.
Rocco Farrell tossed in 10 points for Connellsville (0-13, 5-15).
