Menhart part of Washington-Greene HOF Class of 2026

John Menhart

John Menhart, a two-time 1,000-yard rusher for Carmichaels who later compiled a 101-69-2 record as the Mikes football head coach, is part of the Washington-Greene Chapter of the Pa. Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2026.

Menhart is a 1974 Carmichaels graduate who was named to the Big 33 Check List and was named the Pittsburgh Dapper Dan WPIAL Class B Most Valuable Player. He went on to be a three-year starter at Indiana University of Pa.

Menhart served two stints as Carmichaels head coach, from 1989 to 2002 and from 2009 to 2012, and is the program’s all-time leader in wins.

Other members of the Washington-Greene Class of 2026 are John Robert Bednarski (posthumous), Athlete, Coach, Baseball-Washington High School and Rider University; Bill Bertrand, Athlete, Wrestling-Burgettstown High School and Penn State University; Samuel V. “Sam” Cooper (posthumous), Athlete of Distinction, Football-Venetia, PA, Monongahela and Mars High Schools and Geneva College; John Dziak Edward E. “Eddie” Monaco Above and Beyond Award-Trinity High School and Waynesburg University; Kurt Kesneck, Athlete, Baseball, Football, Wrestling and Official-Chartiers-Houston High School and PennWest California; Alexandra “Alex” Loos (posthumous), Athlete, Track and Field, Soccer, Basketball-Bentworth High School; Nick Mandich, Youth Services, Coach, Athlete, Official Wrestling-Immaculate Conception High School and PennWest California; Suzanne Montecalvo Antonucci, Athlete, Track and Field, Basketball, Cross Country, Golf-Washington High School and Robert Morris University; Keilan O’Daniel, Athlete, Wrestling-Canon-McMillan High School; Chris Potts, Athlete, Football, Track and Field-Washington High School and West Virginia University; Stephen J. Reihner, Athlete of Distinction, Soccer-Washington, PA, The Linsley School, and Penn State University; Mark Simpson, Athlete, Track and Field, Football, Basketball-Chartiers-Houston High School and West Virginia University; Andrew Sweat, Athlete, Football-Trinity High School and Ohio State University; 1998 Washington Pony League Team, Team of Yesteryear, Baseball.

Za’layah Edwards, Basketball-Chartiers-Houston and Fort Cherry High Schools, and Penn State Fayette, will receive the James C. “Jimmy” Montecalvo and Luke Blanock Memorial Courage Award.

Also three Hall of Fame Moments will be recognized, including Dave Clark, Fort Cherry High School (1986 WPIAL Class AA baseball quarterfinals), John Cohen, Washington High School (1980 football game vs. Trinity) and

Olen Scott, Canon McMillan High School (1986 WPIAL Team Quarterfinal wrestling match).

The Hall of Fame’s 40th induction banquet will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, June 7, at the Hilton Garden Inn, Southpointe.
