Local roundup: Lady Raiders’ long-range barrage sinks LH

Aierra Jenkins scored a game-high 22 points and was one of four Uniontown players to hit multiple 3-pointers in a 64-33 non-section victory at crosstown rival Laurel Highlands in a girls basketball clash Tuesday night.

Lyric McLee followed with 14 points for the Lady Raiders, including a trio of treys, and Jenkins, Charley Murtha and Ambree Long each sank a pair of 3-pointers.

Murtha and Long both finished with nine points.

Uniontown (6-3) led 16-12 after the first quarter then pushed out to a 33-17 halftime advantage and was up 45-24 heading into the final frame.

Chloe Price scored 13 points to pace the Lady Mustangs (3-7), who also got 10 points from Taylor Schwertfeger.

Geibel Catholic 59, Hillel 22 – Emma Larkin dropped in a game-high 24 points and Mallory Clemmer was right behind with 22 as the host Lady Gators’ improved to 11-0 with a win over the Heat at the Geibel Catholic Tournament.

Geibel (11-0) led 20-4, 43-11 and 56-16 at the quarter breaks.

Sima Reinherz was the top scorer for Hillel (2-4) with eight points.

Greensburg Salem 39, Mount Pleasant 29 – Vienna Jevicky scored 14 points as the Lady Lions’ topped the host Lady Vikings at the Mount Pleasant Tournament.

Greensburg Salem built an 18-9 halftime advantage and led 30-16 after three quarters. Mount Pleasant held a 13-9 edge in the fourth quarter to slice the final margin to 10.

Mya Heasley had 13 points for the Lady Lions (4-6).

Morgan Gesinski led the Lady Vikings (4-6) with six points.

West Mifflin 43, Connellsville 42 – The Lady Titans reeled off the final nine points of the game, including A’Ryah Scott’s basket at the buzzer, to stun the Lady Falcons at the Mount Pleasant Tournament.

Connellsville (3-7) led 42-34 with 1:15 to play.

The Lady Falcons were up 14-8, 22-19 and 31-30 at the quarter breaks and fell behind 42-34 with 1:15 to play before storming back to win.

Nerual Parms paced West Mifflin (3-6) with 15 points, Kendall Lee followed with 13 and Scott wound up with eight.

California 62, Carlynton 22 — Hayley Gibson tossed in 17 points in the Lady Trojans’ victory over the Lady Cougars (3-6) at the Mapletown Tournament.

California (4-6) was up 14-2 after the opening quarter and used a 16-4 advantage in the second to take a commanding 30-6 halftime lead.

Lila Mitchell turned in a double-double for the Lady Trojans with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Jeannette 41, Mapletown 34 — The Lady Jayhawks (7-2) fought off the host Lady Maples (1-10) upset bid in the Mapletown Tournament.

Boys basketball

Laurel Highlands 52, West Allegheny 31 – The Mustangs limited the Indians to 10 or fewer points each quarter in earning a non-section victory over the host Indians.

Kayden Martin led the way for Laurel Highlands (6-4) with 15 points and Luke Martin added 14.

The Mustangs led 18-10, 27-15 and 46-25 at the quarter breaks.

King Henke scored eight points for West Allegheny (5-6).

Southmoreland 64, South Park 58 – The Scotties finished the Charleroi Tournament on a high note by upending the Eagles after falling to East Allegheny and Uniontown.

Noah Felentzer racked up 28 points and Brock Pritts followed with 13 points for Southmoreland (5-6), which also got 10 points from Noah Sherbondy.

Luke Scarff tied Felentzer for game-high honors with 28 points for South Park (8-2) and Cooper Hochendoner had 12 points.

West Greene 65, Waynesburg Central 51 — Landon Hill poured in 28 points as the Pioneers knocked off the Raiders at the Bentworth Tournament.

The score was tied 13-13 after the first quarter but West Greene (2-6) seized a 30-27 halftime lead and took control of the game by out-scoring Waynesburg 18-9 in the third to go up 48-36.

Also hitting double digits for the Pioneers’ Matt Wassil (11) and Will Shipman (10).

Dane Woods scored 28 points to pace the Raiders (4-6) who also got 18 points and five assists from Cole Headlee and eight rebounds from Jackson Dean.

Monessen 65, California 26 — Tayvin Craggette and Torrence Taylor each rang up 19 points as the host Greyhounds raced past the Trojans at the Delvin Miller Memorial Tournament in Monessen.

Monessen led 21-13 after the first quarter and 39-20 at halftime before putting the game away with an 18-4 advantage in the third to to up 57-24.

Jay’veyon Jeffries tallied 14 points for the Greyhounds (3-5).

Alan Dennis scored 12 points for California (0-9).

Norwin 62, Belle Vernon 55 — The Knights survived a battle with the Leopards at the Peters Township Tournament as Alex Graney scored 18 points.

Norwin led 18-14 after the first quarter and 36-24 at halftime but Belle Vernon whittled the game to 45-43 by the end of the third. The Knights held on with a 17-12 edge in the fourth.

Nico Keteles added 11 points for Norwin (7-4).

Elijah Majors led the Leopards (7-6) with a game-high 20 points, including three 3-pointers, and Dan Daugherty chipped in with 14 points.

Connellsville 68, Mount Pleasant 31 — The Falcons (4-6) soar past the Vikings (3-7) at the Greensburg Salem Tournament.

Canon-McMillan 55, Albert Gallatin 36 — The Big Macs (5-5) topped the Colonials (2-8) at the Trinity Tournament.
