Uniontown sweeps past AG, EF in Section 2-3A action

It came down to the final event on the track, and when all was said and done, Uniontown edged Elizabeth Forward to not only win the race, but defeat the Lady Warriors, 73.5-67.5 on Monday in a Section 2-3A girls track & field tri-meet at Albert Gallatin Stadium in York Run.

The Lady Red Raiders downed Albert Gallatin, 104-28, and Elizabeth Forward topped the Lady Colonials, 116-16.

Uniontown improved to 2-0 in the section and 3-0 overall.

The Lady Red Raiders’ quartet of Ellie Carei, Addison Caruso, Azhiyah Belt and Rhiannon Feather won the 1,600-meter relay in 4:37.96. The Lady Warriors finished in 4:44.46.

Belt ran the third leg to help Uniontown to a victory in the 400 relay. Nadyia Marilungo, Londyn Harris ran the first two legs and Leighana Cicconi brought the Lady Red Raiders home in 55.41.

Uniontown’s Arrington Scott, Sadie Hostetler, Paisley Murtha and Charley Murtha led their team to a sweep in the relay, as the four won the 3,200 relay in 11:39.96. Scott also won the 800-meter run in 2:41.59.

“It was definitely a team victory on the girls side,” Uniontown associate head coach Joe Carei said. “Everyone had their job and executed it. The cherry on top was the 4×400 victory. The 4×400 was comprised of a jumper, hurdler, distance runner and sprinter.”

Feather won the 300 hurdles in 56.02.

The Lady Red Raiders dominated in the jumping events, as Lyric McLee won the long and triple jumps with leaps of 15-11 and 30-11.5. Chole Chitchfield cleared 4-10 to win the high jump.

Elizabeth Forward’s Alayna Lafontant swept the sprints with victories in the 100, 200 and 400-meter dashes. She won the 100 in 12.97, the 200 in 26.27 and the 400 in 1:01.37.

Teammate Lily Ash won the 1,600 and 3,200 in times of 5:52.59 and 12:49.43.

The Lady Warriors’ McKenna Bittner won the shot put (34-6) and discus (100-10). EF’s Meadow Whatton won the javelin with a throw of 95-02.

The Lady Warriors’ Caitlyn Skalican won the 100 hurdles in 20.74.

Uniontown’s distance runners set the pace for the boys, as the Red Raiders topped Albert Gallatin, 109-28, and Elizabeth Forward, 93-47. The Warriors downed the Colonials, 89-38.

Uniontown moved to 2-0 in section play and 3-0 overall.

The Red Raiders’ Ethan Syner won the 1,600 in 4:54.42 and the 3,200 in 10:44.83. Teammate Matthew Page won the 800 in 2:18.41.

Uniontown swept the top three in the distance races, as Logan Davis (4:57.31) and Page (4:58.54) were second and third in the 1,600. Davis and Ezra Batovsky came in second and third in the 3,200 with times of 11:10.49 and 11:21.62.

Dante Rugola (2:20.91) and Kavon Novak (2:22.90) were second and third in the 800-meter run.

Batovsky, Davis, Page and Syner teamed up to win the 3,200 relay in 9:24.30.

“The boys were led by the distance squad,” Carei said.

The Red Raiders won both races in the hurdles, as David Settles crossed the finish line in 16.74 in the 110 high hurdles, and Chase White won the 300 hurdles in 46.52.

Uniontown’s Steele Stash won the 100 in 11.92. Teammate Stephen Chapley topped the field in the 400 in 53.22.

The Red Raiders’ Zyon Hopes won the high jump after clearing 5-6.

Uniontown’s Kylar Tibbe won the discus with a throw of 121 feet.

Albert Gallatin’s Mekhi Belt won the long jump in 20-7.5. Teammate Adam Pegg won the triple in 38-2.

EF’s Riley Albert won the 200 in 24.46. He was part of the 400 and 1,600 relay teams that won in 46.27 and 3:51.05. Noah Curran, Rocco Thompson and Kamerin Krise joined Albert on the 400 relay, while Kristopher Vietmeier, Bryan Taylor and Aidan Davis were also on the 1,600 relay.

The Warriors’ Kyle Croyle (133-8) and Ryder Jarvis (45-6) won the javelin and shot put.

GIRLS: RINGGOLD 78, LAUREL HIGHLANDS 71; CONNELLSVILLE 81, RINGGOLD 68 — The Lady Falcons dominated the field events, the Fillies took care of business in the distance races and the Lady Rams were strong in the relays during a Section 2-3A meet at Joe Montana Stadium.

While they competed against each other individually, the teams scores for Connellsville and Laurel Highlands didn’t count because the two will face each other, along with Uniontown, on April 9 at Laurel Highlands in a tri-meet.

The Fillies’ Diondra Brown won the 100 and 200-meter dashes in 12.86 and 26.27. Teammate Sahayla Dues swept the hurdles. She won the 100 in 16.01 and the 300 in 50.19.

Laurel Highlands’ Bella Baker won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs in times of 2:28.25, 5:27.33 and 12:22.56.

The Lady Falcons’ Sophie Bandemer won the 400 in 1:04.05.

Connellsville had three different winners in the throwing events, as Sarah Tinkey won the shot put (32-1.5), Temprance Neiderhiser the discus (86-6) and Sophia Pleva the javelin (91-2).

The Lady Falcons’ Larissa Franks won the pole vault (9-0) and triple jump (29-11). Teammate Rylee Leasher leapt 15-6 to take top honors in the long jump.

The Fillies’ Neela Hill broke up Connellsville’s dominance in the field events with a win in the high jump (4-10).

Ringgold’s 400 relay team won in 52.21. Its 1,600 relay finished victorious in 4:29.43 and the 3,200 won in 10:36:46.

BOYS: RINGGOLD 91, LAUREL HIGHLANDS 58; RINGGOLD 91, CONNELLSVILLE 59 — The Rams’ Dravin Everley won three individual events in helping the home team to a Section 2-3A victory over the Mustangs and Falcons and Joe Montana Stadium.

While they competed against each other individually, the score between Connellsville and Laurel Highlands wasn’t counted because the two will face each other, along with Uniontown, on April 9 at Laurel Highlands in a tri-meet.

Everley won the 1,600-meter run in 4:42.35 before topping the field in the 800 with a time of 2:08.65. He took the shot break after the 200-meter dash was run before finishing the 3,200 in 10:48.71.

Ringgold’s Demetri Lowe won the 100 in 11.67 and the 200 in 23.40. Teammate Dennis Hawkins won the 400 in 53.47 and cleared 6-0 to top the field in the high jump.

The Falcons’ Zach Franks won both hurdle races and the pole vault. The senior won the 110 hurdles in 17.60 and the 300 hurdles in 47.61. He cleared 12-6 to win the pole vault.

Connellsville’s Glen Strickler won the shot put in 48-11.5 and the discus with a throw of 145-2.

The Mustangs’ Cole Radcliffe won the long jump in 18-10.5 and the triple in 39-11. Teammate Grant Brambley won the javelin with a toss of 146-2.

The Rams’ won the 400, 1,600 and 3,200 relays in times of 44.81, 3:47.86 and 8:45.65.
