LH seeded 6th, Uniontown 12th in WPIAL softball pairings
Carmichaels was the highest seeded area team at No. 2 in Class A when the WPIAL released its softball playoff pairings on Thursday, while Laurel Highlands and Uniontown were slotted sixth and 12th in Class 4A and will be part of a first-round doubleheader.
The Mikes were placed behind No. 1 Union and have a first-round bye. They will open their postseason on March 18 against the winner between No. 7 Sewickley Academy and No. 10 Monessen, who play Thursday.
The Mustangs take on No. 11 Freeport in a 2 p.m. game Monday at Norwin and the Lady Raiders go up against No. 5 Indiana afterwards at 4 p.m.
Joining Carmichaels in the Class A bracket are No. 3 West Greene, No. 5 Jefferson-Morgan and No. 11 Beth-Center. The Mikes, Lady Pioneers and Lady Rockets give Section 2 three of the top five seeds.
West Greene has a first-round by and, like the Mikes, open play on May 18. The Lady Pioneers will play the winner between B-C and No. 6 South Side who play 4:30 p.m. on May 14 at Canon-McMillan’s North Strabane Intermediate School.
Also on May 14, Jefferson-Morgan plays No. 12 Leechburg in a 3 p.m. game at Gateway.
In Class 2A, Frazier was seeded ninth and Brownsville was put at No. 13 with both also opening play on May 14. The Lady Commodores play No. 8 Seton LaSalle in a 3 p.m. game at West Mifflin and the Lady Falcons go up against No. 4 South Allegheny in a 5 p.m. game at Norwin.
Connellsville is the No. 14 seed in Class 5A and plays No. 3 Penn-Trafford in a 5 p.m. game on Tuesday at Norwin.
Mount Pleasant was made the No. 3 seed in Class 3A and has a first-round bye. The Lady Vikings play the winner of the May 14 game at Norwin between No. 6 Burrell and No. 11 Charleroi.
