MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Postseason baseball is coming back to Morgantown.
The NCAA announced West Virginia baseball will be one of the 16 schools to host a regional for the NCAA baseball tournament. This is the first time the Mountaineers have hosted since 2019.
WVU did a lot to get to this point, and it’s the first time hosting under head coach Steve Sabins. The Mountaineers are an at-large bid and closed off the Big 12 Tournament with a loss to Kansas in the Big 12 Championship. WVU had a 39-14 record and finished 21-9 in the conference. This is the 17th NCAA Tournament appearance and the fourth-straight year.
The Jayhawks are also hosting a regional, and the two are the only Big 12 schools to host. The rest of the host schools are UCLA, who is the consensus top team, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Auburn, Texas, North Carolina, Texas A&M, Oregon, Florida, Southern Mississippi, Nebraska, Mississippi State, Florida State and Alabama.
The rest of the regional was to be announced later on Monday.
Last year, WVU played in the Clemson Regional and advanced to face eventual national champion LSU in the Super Regional.
