Crouse runs for 165 yards in Waynesburg win over Scotties

Teagan Crouse had five carries for 165 yards, including touchdown runs of 77 and 5 yards, as Waynesburg Central defeated Southmoreland, 41-14, in a Class 3A Interstate Conference game at Russ Grimm Field in high school football action Friday night.

Crouse added a 2-yard TD pass to Hudson Bennett for the Raiders, who improved to 2-1 in the conference and 5-1 overall.

Waynesburg led 14-0 after the first quarter and 38-0 at halftime.

The Raiders also got touchdowns from Grant Pack on a 1-yard fumble return and Ky-mani Sumpter on a 2-yard run. Nate Riccuiti added field goals of 39 and 35 yards.

The Scotties (1-2, 2-4) got touchdown runs in the fourth quarter of 24 yards by Reese Jordan and 2 yards by Colten Cochran. Brock Geho had four receptions for 31 yards.

WOODLAND HILLS 41, CONNELLSVILLE 19 — The Falcons hung with the host Wolverines for a half but Woodland Hills exploded for 34 points in the second half to pull away for the Class 5A Big East Conference victory.

Elijah McGuire scored the first of his two touchdowns on a 5-yard run in the first quarter to put the first-place Wolverines (3-0, 3-3) ahead 6-0.

Connellsville (0-2, 3-3) got within 7-6 on Jeffrey Nicholson’s 15-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Jenkins in the second quarter.

McGuire ran for a 39-yard touchdown in the third quarter to make it 14-6 but the Falcons answered with a 1-yard TD run by Nicholson to slice the gap to 14-12 with the 2-point conversion failing.

Woodland Hills pulled away from there by scoring the next four touchdowns.

Nicholson capped the scoring with an 82-yard TD pass to Jenkins.

Linkon Keller led Connellsville with nine carries for 125 yards while Nicholson threw for 148 yards.

BETH-CENTER 51, JEFFERSON-MORGAN 7 — Enzo Brown ran for 184 yards and a touchdown as the Bulldogs remained unbeaten with a Class A Tri-County South Conference win over the visiting Rockets.

Chase Bebout threw for 79 yards and a touchdown for Beth-Center, which built a 23-0 halftime lead and pulled away from there.

Jefferson-Morgan falls to 1-2 in the TCS and 1-5 overall.

AVELLA 46, WEST GREENE 18 — Gagge Samol ran for 166 yards and three touchdowns and Chas Rush added 128 yards on the ground and two scores as the host Eagles soared past the Pioneers in a Class A Tri-County South Conference game.

Avella improved to 2-1 in the TCS and 3-3 overall. West Greene fell to 1-2 and 2-4).

Lane Stephenson had a 1-yard touchdown run and caught a 10-yard TD pass from Joel Rizor for the Pioneers. Rizor, who rushed for 124 yards, also scored on a 1-yard run.

FREEPORT 17, MOUNT PLEASANT 14 — Judah Thompson’s 26-yard field goal with 2:20 left in the game lifted Freeport past the Vikings in a non-conference game.

Mount Pleasant (3-3) took a 14-7 lead in the second quarter.

The Vikings scored first on a 1-yard touchdown run by Kaden Hudec but Freeport tied it on Danny King’s 4-yard TD pass to Chave Flynn. Brady Brooks then put Mount Pleasant ahead with a 90-yard interception return.

Freeport (5-1) tied it with 6:20 left in the fourth quarter on King’s 62-yard touchdown pass to Camden Schlegel.

King completed 8 of 14 passes for 139 yards.

Hudek led the Vikings with 17 carries for 78 yards.

BELLE VERNON 14, DERRY 7 — Jace Gedekoh’s 15-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter broke a 7-7 tie and lifted the Leopards to a Class 3A Interstate Confernce win at Derry.

Belle Vernon (2-0, 5-1) took a 7-0 lead on Gedekoh’s 25-yard touchdown pass to Cameron Black in the second quarter.

The Trojans (0-2, 2-4) tied it before halftime on Anthony Sacco’s 18-yard scoring pass to Noah Stough.

LIGONIER VALLEY 52, BROWNSVILLE 7 — Blake Hitt and Eric Dietz each scored a pair of touchdowns as the unbeaten Rams triumphed over the Falcons in a Class 2A Allegheny Conference game at Redstone Field.

Hitt’s 7-yard touchdown run in the first quarter put the Rams up 7-0 but Brownsville (0-3, 0-6) evened the scored on Jax Patterson’s 71-yard interception return and Max Dieudonne’s extra point.

Levi Foust followed a touchdown pass with a TD run to give Ligonier Valley (2-0, 6-0) a 21-7 halftime lead, and they pulled away with 24 points in the third quarter.

CALIFORNIA 62, MAPLETOWN 0 — Brandon Meier threw for 122 yards and four touchdowns in the Trojans’ Class A Tri-County South Conference victory at Mapletown.

Meier threw TD passes of 22 and 24 yards to Weston Monticelli, 38 yards to Alan Dennis and 5 yards to Eli Carpenter. Dennis also had touchdown runs of 38 and 9 yards. Barrett Daniels added TD runs of 5 and 20 yards and Sid Miklos scored on a 3-yard run for the Trojans (3-0, 4-2).

The Maples fell to 0-3 in the TCS and 0-6 overall.

FRAZIER 20, CARMICHAELS 0 — Brady Secrest accounted for all three of the Commodores’ touchdowns in a Class A Tri-County South Conference win at Carmichaels.

Secrest scored on a 2-yard run in the first quarter, threw a 40-yard scoring pass to Nico Anderson in the second quarter and added a 3-yard TD run before halftime.

There was no scoring i the second half.

Frazier improved to 2-1 in the TCS and 3-3 overall. The Mikes fell to 0-3 and 1-5.
