Kovscek buries 4 goals as Brownsville tops California

Gloria Kovscek rang up four goals and an assist to spark Brownsville in a 7-1 victory over California in Section 2-A girls soccer action on Monday.
Ellie Haddad added a pair of goals and Avianna Hernandez also knocked in a goal for the Lady Falcons, who improved to 4-1 in the section and 12-1 overall.
The Lady Trojans fell to 1-5 and 1-7-1).
BELLE VERNON 0, THOMAS JEFFERSON 0 – The Lady Leopards and Lady Jaguars played to a scoreless draw in a Section 3-3A match.
Belle Vernon got off 34 shots with 15 on goal but couldn’t find the back of the net as its record goes to 5-0-2 in the section and 7-1-4 overall.
Lady Leopards goalkeeper Skylar Salay stopped all seven shots she faced in recording the shutout.
WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 4, SETON LASALLE 4 – Emily Rafferty and Kolbi Tastoka each rang up two goals and an assist as the Lady Raiders and Seton LaSalle (3-2-4, 6-3-4) played to a draw in a Section 1-2A match.
Ava DiAlessandro and Larsyn Huffman both had an assist for Waynesburg (5-1-2, 7-2-3).
NORWIN 3, CONNELLSVILLE 1 – The Lady Knights beat the Lady Falcons in a Section 1-4A match.
ELIZABETH FORWARD 4, ALBERT GALLATIN 1 – Caylin Seabol and Maicee Smith each had two goals as the Lady Warriors (6-1, 7-4) beat the Lady Colonials (2-5, 5-6-1) in a Section 3-3A match.
Jaelle Plum tallied the only goal for Albert Gallatin.
SOUTHMORELAND 2, SOUTH ALLEGHENY 1 – Ashley Seder and Gia VanDyke accounted for the Lady Scotties’ two goals in a Section 4-2A win over the Lady Gladiators (0-8, 0-11).
Southmoreland improved to 4-4 in the section and 4-6 overall.
CHARTIERS-HOUSTON 3, BETH-CENTER 0 – Grace Littlecott scored all three goals for the Lady Bucs (2-3-1, 7-5-1) in a Section 2-A win over the Lady Bulldogs (1-3-1, 3-7-2).
MOUNT PLEASANT 0, LATROBE 0 – Neither team could find the back of the net as the Vikings and Wildcats played to a draw in a non-section clash.
BOYS SOCCER
LAURLE HIGHLANDS 6, CHARLEROI 1 – Jack Nairn knocked in a pair of goals and Elliot Boor had a goal and an assist as in the Mustangs non-section victory over the Cougars.
Laurel Highlands (3-7-1) also got goals from Roman George and Mike Aubrele, and assists from Matt Kolencik, Jack Baker and Jeff Yauger.
Matt Odoski had the lone goal for Charleroi (4-3-3).
STEEL VALLEY 3, BROWNSVILLE 0 – The Ironmen shut out the Falcons in a non-section game. Camden Kline made 11 saves for Brownsville.
WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 10, CALIFORNIA 0 – Mason Loughner totaled three goals and an assist in the Raiders’ non-section victory over the Trojans (4-6-2).
Isaac McCartney added a goal and two assists for Waynesburg (4-6-2), which also got one goal apiece from Christian Clark, Will Maxwell, Hayden Housel, Erik Yorty, Blake Tennant and Landon Hogue.
CENTRAL CATHOLIC 4, CONNELLSVILLE 0 – Central Catholic blanked the Falcons in s Section 1-4A match.
SOUTHMORELAND 0, MCKEESPORT 0 – The Scotties and Tigers played to a scoreless draw in a non-section match.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 3, FRAZIER 1 – Railey Bochna had 19 kills and nine digs as the Lady Raiders defeated the Lady Commodores in a non-section match by scores of 25-23, 25-18, 18-25 and 25-18.
Chatham Knight had 32 assists and eight digs, Harper Grimes contributed 11 kills and 11 digs, and Lelia McCollum added 23 digs for Waynesburg (11-0), which also got five kills and four digs from Emma Blair.
CHARLEROI 3, MAPLETOWN 0 – The Lady Cougars knocked off the Lady Maples in a non-section match by scores of 25-14, 25-17 and 25-22.
Lily Hawk had six assists, three kills and two aces, and Sophia Vanata contributed four kills, three digs and two aces for Mapletown (1-10), which also got four digs, three assists and three aces from Leona Liggett and two kills, four digs and two aces from Leah Williamson.
KISKI 3, CONNELLSVILLE 0 – The Lady Cavaliers fended off the Lady Falcons in a Section 2-5A match by scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-23.
GIRLS GOLF
WPIAL FINALS — Laurel Highlands freshman Sydney Glover finished 25th among 35 golfers competing in the WPIAL Class 3A Girls Individual Championship which wrapped up on Monday at Valley Brook Golf Club.
Moon senior Olivia Degori took the gold medal and was one of seven girls to advance to the PIAA finals.
Brownsville senior Ava Rohland finished 16th in the Class 2A finals, won by Shady Side Academy’s Alyssa Zhang, who was one of nine golfers to move on to the state finals.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
BELLE VERNON 15, STEEL VALLEY 50; BELLE VERNON 22, GREENSBURG CENTRAL CATHOLIC 39 — The Lady Leopards clinched first place in Division II, Section 5 by racing past the Ironmen and Lady Centurions.
The Lady Leopards went 8-0 in the section.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
BELLE VERNON 15, STEEL VALLEY 50; BELLE VERNON 15, GREENSBURG CENTRAL CATHOLIC 50 — The Leopards cruised past the Ironmen and Centurions in a Division II, Section 5 meet.
Belle Vernon’s Leo Soto was the overall winner with a time of 17:18. The Leopards placed second in the section with an 8-1 record.
