B-C’s Brown still leads TD Club despite movement in top 10
Rob Burchianti | Herald-Standard
Enzo Brown scored one touchdown in Beth-Center’s 24-0 win at Carmichaels in Week Seven but that was enough to keep him safely atop the Herald-Standard Touchdown Club standings of the area’s scoring leaders.
Brown’s 50-yard touchdown run gave him 15 on the season to go along with a two-point conversion and a safety he recorded in the Bulldogs’ win over Jefferson-Morgan in Week Six, giving him 94 points.
Brown held an 18-point lead over Waynesburg Central’s Ky-mani Sumpter going into the week but California’s Alan Dennis jumped from fifth place over Sumpter into second with a 14-point performance in the Trojans’ 57-0 win over West Greene and he is now 16 points out of first.
Dennis had a 1-yard touchdown run and a 56-yard interception return for a TD while also running in a two-point conversion to give him 78 points on the season.
Sumpter found the end zone again with a 38-yard run in the Raiders’ 42-7 win at Greensburg Salem. He’s now in third place at 76 points.
Uniontown’s Marcus Evans accounted for the Red Raiders’ lone points in last Thursday night’s loss to Ringgold with a scintillating 87-yard run and that was enough to keep him alone in fourth place with 72 points.
Beth-Center’s DeSean Whipkey did not score in Week Seven but remains in the top five. He is fifth with 68 points.
Jumping two spots to give Waynesburg two players in the top six was quarterback Teagan Crouse who was one of four area players to ring up 18 points in Week Seven.
Couse had TD runs of 40, 6 and 62 yards to put him at 66 points and in sixth place. He also tossed a pair of touchdown passes to Jack Ricciuti to give him 13 on the season, which puts him third in that category behind California’s Brandon Meier (15) and Uniontown’s Brayden Hinzy (14).
Connellsville’s Lincoln Keller kept his hold on seventh place with a nine-point effort in a 49-10 loss at Gateway in a game the Falcons only trailed by three at halftime. Keller connected on a 43-yard field goal and pulled in a 29-yard touchdown pass from Jeffrey Nicholson to put him at 62 points. He is six ahead of Southmoreland’s Dawson Wolfe who did not score in the Scotties’ 42-20 loss at Highlands to drop two spots into eighth with 56 points.
Meier piled up 16 points against the Pioneers with two TD runs and a pair of two-point conversions which moved him up four spots into ninth place with 54 points. He also threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Eli Carpenter.
Hunter Bobbs racked up 18 points in unorthodox fashion against Carmichaels to up his total to 53 points and give Beth-Center a trio of players in the top 10. Bobbs pulled in a 46-yard scoring pass from Chase Bebout, took back an interception 26 yards for a touchdown, kicked a 32-yard field goal and was three-for-three on extra points.
Bobbs shot up from 18 place into 10th.
Just outside the top 10 in 11th place is Belle Vernon quarterback Jace Gedekoh who had touchdown runs of 22, 1 and 5 for 18 points and 52 overall in a 49-0 win over Mount Pleasant.
The fourth player to score 18 points in Week Seven was Frazier’s Brandon Gardner who chalked up his first three touchdowns of the season on receptions of 16 and 77 yards from Brady Secrest and a 65-yard interception return.
Secrest tossed four TD passes in a 48-0 win over Mapletown, also connecting with Brant Alekson for a 15-yard score and Nico Anderson from 18 yards out.
Secrest is now fourth among local players in touchdown passes with 12.
