Unbeaten Waynesburg sweeps Quaker Valley in volleyball

Harper Grimes rang up 14 kills, five digs and three blocks as Waynesburg Central remained unbeaten with a 3-0 sweep of Quaker Valley in a girls volleyball non-section match on Tuesday night.
The Lady Raiders won by scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 25-23.
Chatham Knight contributed 23 assists and three digs and Emily Rafferty chipped in with 13 digs, four kills and three aces for Waynesburg (14-0), which also got six kills and six digs from Railey Bochna, four digs, three aces and two blocks from Emma Blair, 16 digs and two aces from Lelia McCollum and two kills from Julia Fisher.
ST. JOSEPH 3, GEIBEL CATHOLIC 0 — Neville Petrosky had nine kills, 16 digs and three blocks but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Gators fell to St. Joseph by scores of 25-14, 25-20 and 25-19.
Nolace Petrosky had 13 digs for Geibel, which also got 11 assists from Annabelle Kelly and three blocks from Mallory Clemmer.
SOUTHMORELAND 3, BROWNSVILLE 2 — The Lady Scotties edged the Lady Falcons in a Section 4-3A match by scores of 25-23, 21-25, 25-18, 18-25 and 15-9.
INDIANA 3, ALBERT GALLATIN 2 — The Lady Indians fought off a comeback attempt by the Lady Colonials in a Section 2-5A match.
Scores were 25-19, 25-23, 19-25, 23-25 and 15-10.
Gabby Penrose recorded 14 kills and seven digs, and Riylee Abel had 35 assists, 12 digs and two aces for Albert Gallatin, which also got nine kills from Paityn Goletz, 16 digs from Lily Mick and eight kills from Isabelle Usher.
FRAZIER 3, MAPLETOWN 0 — The Lady Commodores swept the Lady Maples in a Section 4-2A match by scores of 25-14, 25-18 and 25-13.
Sophia Vanata had four aces and two digs and Leona Liggett had three assists and two digs for Mapletown.
BELLE VERNON 3, LAUREL HIGHLANDS 0 — Mia Bosetti had seven kills in the Lady Leopards’ Section 2-4A victory over the Fillies (1-10, 1-15).
Belle Vernon (7-4, 9-6) also got 17 assists from Abby Nickolls, nine digs and four aces from Evelyn Matthews and five kills from Lilly Hill.
BOYS SOCCER
BROWNSVILLE 2, LIGONIER VALLEY 0 — Dustin Evans scored the only two goals of the match as the Falcons blanked the Rams.
Brandon Escamilla assisted on both goals.
Camden Kline made eight saves in recording the shutout.
BETH-CENTER 3, CARLYNTON 3 — Parker Amos scored a pair of goals in the Bulldogs’ Section 2-A draw with the Cougars.
Ryder Roule also scored for Beth-Center.
BELLE VERNON 5, SOUTHMORELAND 3 — Jesse Sobczak recorded a hat trick as the Leopards defeated the Scotties in a Section 5-2A match.
Landon Bell and Chris Showman also had goals for Belle Vernon (9-1-1, 11-1-2) which led 4-0 at halftime. Bell, Anthony Sawa and Gavin Metzger each had one assist. Goalkeepers Jaxson Hurst (5) and Morgan bunch (2) combined to make seven saves for the Leopards.
MOUNT PLEASANT 6, YOUGH 1 — Lukas Showman had two goals and two assists and Tyke Snyder had a hat trick in the Vikings’ win over the Cougars.
Mount Pleasant also got a goal from Grant Zahrobsky.
FOX CHAPEL 7, CONNELLSVILLE 0 — The Foxes shut out the Falcons in a Section 1-4A match.
GIRLS TENNIS
MOUNT PLEASANT 5, OAKLAND CATHOLIC 0 — The fifth-seeded Lady Vikings opened the WPIAL Class 2A team playoffs with a sweep of No. 12 Oakland Catholic.
Singles winners for Mount Pleasant were Ryleigh Drzal, Autumn Jukovic-Kuzma and Megan Bullock.
Victorious in doubles were Danica Trainer and Claire Reese, and Chloe Zelmore and Hannah Shawley.
