Connellsville rolls past LH in volleyball

Molly Greenawalt recorded six kills and five blocks as Connellsville rolled past host Laurel Highlands in non-section girls volleyball action on Thursday.
The Lady Falcons won by scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-12.
Connellsville also got six kills from both Macey Orndorff and Madi Stillwagon. Orndorff added five aces and Megan Flynn rang up 20 assists.
OUR LADY OF THE SACRED HEART 3, FRAZIER 2 – The Lady Commodores rallied back to even after dropping the first two sets but the Lady Chargers pulled away in the fifth to escape with a 3-2 non-section win.
OLSH won the first two sets, 25-20 and 25-16, before Frazier stormed back in the next two to get even, 25-20 and 25-16. The Lady Chargers won the fifth set, 15-6.
Allie Monack had 16 kills, 13 assists and 13 service points, and Morgan Fisher contributed 13 kills and 16 assists to lead the Lady Commodores, who also got seven kills from Gionna Rumbaugh, nine service points from Emme Travelena, five blocks from Mia West and four blocks from Grace Polkabla. Addison Hiles led Frazier in digs.
The Lady Commodores will compete in the Franklin Regional Tournament on Saturday.
BALDWIN 3, BELLE VERNON 0 – The Lady Highlanders triumphed over the Lady Leopards in a non-section match by scores of 25-9, 25-17 and 25-18.
Abby Nickolls had six kills and four aces for Belle Vernon (1-1), which also got five kills from Addy Newman, seven assists from Nazara Nickens and seven digs apiece from Mailey Hayes and Ava Jones.
AVELLA 3, MAPLETOWN 1 – The Lady Eagles downed the host Lady Maples in closely fought non-section match by scores of 27-25, 25-22, 23-25 and 25-20.
Willow Rudman tallied five kills, six aces and five digs, and Lainey Taylor chipped in with nine digs and six aces for Mapletown (1-2), which also got four kills and seven assists from Bella Greenwood, five aces, three digs and two kills from Sophia Vanata, three kills, four digs and two aces from Leah Williamson, three kills and five digs from Brook Hunnell, four digs and two assists from Leona Liggett and three digs from Brynlee McKnight.
OTHER SCORES: Geibel Catholic 3, Jefferson-Morgan 0; Waynesburg Central 3, West Greene 0.
GIRLS TENNIS
MOUNT PLEASANT 5, BURRELL 0 – The Lady Vikings overwhelmed the Lady Bucs, taking all five matches.
Winning at singles for Mount Pleasant were Ryleigh Drzal, Autumn Jurkovic-Kuzma and Megan Bullock.
Doubles winners for the Lady Vikings were Danica Trainer and Hannah Shawley, and Chloe Zelmore and Claire Reese.
BOYS SOCCER
BETH-CENTER 1, CHARTIERS-HOUSTON 1 – The host Bulldogs and Bucs battled to a draw in a match that was called at halftime due to inclement weather.
Beth-Center improved to 1-0-1.
Parker Amos netted the lone goal for the Bulldogs.
GIRLS SOCCER
MOUNT PLEASANT 16, LIGONIER VALLEY 0 – Izzy Overly, Cam Kapr and Tori Tepper each turned in a hat trick as the Lady Vikings swarmed over the Lady Rams on Wednesday.
Goaltenders Faith Stuart and Sam Hodges combined for the shutout.
