By Rob Burchianti 1 min read

Tyler Love threw for 218 yards and a touchdown and added 42 yards rushing and another score as Capital methodically pulled away from Waynesburg for a 35-12 victory in the college football opener for both teams at John F. Wiley Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

It was the debut of Yellow Jackets head coach Larry Wilson who is a Frazier graduate.

The Comets built a 21-0 halftime lead before the Yellow Jackets opened the second half with a 10-play, 80-yard drive capped by Landon Cawley’s 1-yard TD run to make it 21-6.

Capital fired right back with a 52-yard touchdown pass by Preston Hannika to Finn Devine and was never threatened again.

Waynesburg capped the scoring with Carson Shriver’s 5-yard scoring run with 2:21 left.

Cawley had nine carries for 86 yards and Isaiah Fields reeled in eight receptions for 84 yards for the Yellow Jackets.
