Huey, Salvini star as Fort Cherry defeats Trojans, 43-14
Eli Salvini had 15 carries for 196 yards and two touchdowns and Ryan Huey rang up 169 yards and four TDs on 16 attempts as Fort Cherry defeated visiting California, 43-14, in a non-conference football battle between top-tier Class A programs on Friday night.
The Trojans (1-1) took an early 8-0 lead when quarterback Brandon Meier raced for a 67-yard touchdown and added a two-point conversion run in the first quarter.
Huey answered with his first scoring run of 34 yards and Drew Gilbert’s extra point made it 8-7.
The Rangers took control by out-scoring California 21-0 in the second quarter on touchdown runs of 55 by Salvini and 7 and 3 yards by Huey for a 28-8 halftime advantage.
Fort Cherry extended its lead to 43-8 in the third quarter on touchdown runs of 19 yards by Huey and 23 yards by Salvini.
California scored the final touchdown of the game on a 25-yard pass by Meier to Elijah Carpenter in the fourth quarter.
Nathan Wolfe also had a 100-yard game for the Rangers with seven receptions for 115 yards.
