Thomas Jefferson hands Mustangs first section loss

Thomas Jefferson’s Ryder Mulvihill and Laurel Highlands’ Kayden Smith both shot an even-par 36 to tie for medalist honors but it was the host Jaguars who came away with a 190-196 boys golf victory to hand the Mustangs their first Section 2-3A loss of the season at Butler’s Woodside Golf Course on Wednesday.
All five Thomas Jefferson (7-1, 9-2) golfers shot 39 or better. Hunter Haides followed Mulvihill with a 37 while Ty Hartman, Jake Pritchard, A.J. Weidmann and Nate Thatcher all shot a 39 with one of that foursome’s scores being dropped.
Dan O’Neal shot a 37 for Laurel Highlands (8-1, 8-2) and Damon Revak was next with a 39. Ryan Revak, Aiden Milsom and Andrew Gallick all had a 42 with one of those scores bein dropped.
ALBERT GALLATIN 233, UNIONTOWN 235 – Cami Williams took medalist honors with a 43 as the Colonials edged the Red Raiders in a tight Section 2-3A battle.
Garrett Snyder and Gianni Paoli both turned in a 44 for AG, which also got a 47 from Tyler Felioi and a 55 from Logan Diamond.
Elim Martin and Liam Glover each carded a 44 with Jason Vansickle right behind with a 45 for Uniontown, which also got a 51 from both Jackson Opar and Mason Payton.
CARMICHAELS 208, BETH-CENTER 234 – Connor Lapana fired a 2-under-par 33 to earn medalist honors as the Mikes knocked off the host Bulldogs at Chippewa Golf Course.
Eli Hastings shot a 1-over 36 for Carmichaels (5-3, 5-3) and was followed by Jayden Kerley (44), Chase Ankrom (45) and Joby Pratt (50).
Parker Amos had the top score for Beth-Center (2-8, 2-8) with a 41. He was followed by Austin Kurowski (43), Wes Beabout (44), Ryan Krocsko (49) and Kaleb Amos (57).
WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 199, BENTWORTH 254 – Matt Eisminger carded a 36 and Rykan Gustafson shot a 38 in the Raiders’ victory over the Bearcats at Chippewa Golf Course.
Rounding out the scoring for Waynesburg (7-1, 7-3) were Cole Headlee (40), Jarett Tretinik (42) and Lucas Slifko (43).
David Miller and Cooper Piasecki both had a 44 for Bentworth (0-8, 0-10).
SHADYSIDE ACADEMY 180, FRAZIER 225 – All five scorers for Shadyside shot 37 or better in a win over the Commodores at Fox Chapel Golf Course.
Jack Begg and Alex Avi each led Shadyside with a 35, Dusyanth Parmesh shot a 36 and Owen Brown and Ben Cravens both had a 37.
Tyler Jerico led Frazier with a 42 and was followed by Logan Solomon (44), Caden Biddle and John Sinclair (46) and Garrett Seich (47).
CONNELLSVILLE 211, BELLE VERNON 215 – Owen Show was medalist with a 38 as the Falcons triumphed over the Leopards in a Section 2-3A match.
Maddox Ceccarelli paced Belle Vernon with a 40.
MOUNT PLEASANT 220, YOUGH 288 – Austyn Gross turned in the top score of the match with a 36 as the Vikings beat the Cougars.
Also scoring for Mount Pleasant were Hunter Snyder (41), Quinn Painter (46), Trever Gonofsky (48) and Ezra Bowman (49).
Barden Bornak was the top scorer for Yough with a 49.
GIRLS GOLF
LATROBE 193, CONNELLSVILLE 216 – Carly Wissinger took medalist honors with a 42 in the Lady Wildcats’ win over the Lady Falcons.
Addie Richter led Connellsville with a 44.
LIGONIER VALLEY 218, SOUTHMORELAND 220 – The Lady Scotties’ Kendall Campbell and the Lady Rams’ Haley Robertson each shot a 48 to tie for medalist honors but it was Ligonier Valley which grabbed a two-stroke win in their Section 1-2A match.
Also scoring for Southmoreland were Allison Garstek and Kyleigh Fedorko both with a 57 and Riyah Younkin with a 58.
BOYS SOCCER
BELLE VERNON 3, YOUGH 1 – Anthony Sawa, Jesse Sobczak and Gavin Metzger each notched a goal as the Leopards beat the Cougars.
Metzger’s goal came off the rebound of a rush and shot by Chris Showman, who got the assist. Goaltender Morgan Bunch had four saves for Belle Vernon (2-0, 4-0-1).
OTHER SCORES: Hempfield 7, Southmoreland 0.
GIRLS SOCCER
BELLE VERNON 11, UNIONTOWN 0 – Raegan Sobczak and Abby Russell each recorded a hat trick and two assists as the Lady Leopards blanked the Lady Raiders.
ELIZABETH FORWARD 4, LAUREL HIGHLANDS 1 – Camryn McClean tallied the Fillies’ long goal on a penalty kick in a loss to the Lady Warriors.
Addison Stroko made six saves for Laurel Highlands.
