Frazier volleyball coach Hartman records milestone win
Mandy Hartman took over Frazier’s girls volleyball program in 1997 with little fanfare.
Now in her 30th season as head coach, Hartman guides one of the elite programs of the WPIAL.
The Lady Commodores have claimed 18 section titles, two WPIAL championships and 10 undefeated regular seasons under Hartman.
On Wednesday night, Hartman added another accomplishment to her impressive resume.
Frazier registered its 400th win with Hartman at the helm by sweeping West Greene, 3-0, in a Section 4-2A match.
Hartman, whose assistant coach is her husband Don, deflected credit for reaching the milestone to her players over the years, which include her three daughters, Logan, Jensyn and Gracen, who each had outstanding careers.
“I have been so fortunate to have been surrounded by the best kids who come from the best families who were raised in the community I will always cherish,” Hartman said. “I have been blessed and it has been an honor for me to have had this privilege.”
When asked to name her five most memorable matches, Hartman responded, “It’s hard to narrow down a top five but our first section championship in 2004 was my first great accomplishment. That team was so determined to finally put a volleyball banner on the wall.”
The Lady Commodores would add 17 more after that.
“Then the two WPIAL championships that we won will always hold a special place in my heart,” Hartman added.
Both of Hartman’s district crowns came in emphatic fashion.
Frazier’s WPIAL titles came in 2010, with a 3-0 sweep of Bishop Canevin, and 2022, with a 3-0 sweep of Serra Catholic.
Hartman entered the 2026 season with 397 wins. Nos. 399 and 400 came on consecutive days. The Lady Commodores swept California, 3-0, on Tuesday. They improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in section play with the victory over the Lady Pioneers.
