Local writer honored
Moyer receives prestigious national awards
The Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA) has announced that Herald-Standard Outdoors contributor Ben Moyer, of Farmington, won First Place and Second Place honors in the “Magazine Column” category in the 2027 OWAA Excellence in Craft (EIC) Writing Awards program.
Moyer won First Place honors for his column “The Wild Around,” published monthly in Pennsylvania Game News magazine. His Second-Place honor recognized Moyer’s “Crossings” column which appears four times each year in the same publication.
OWAA’s annual EIC Contest honors the best-of-the-best nationwide in a variety of communications formats – Blog, Book, Graphic/Illustration, Magazine, Newspaper, Photography, Photography Essay, Radio/Podcast, TV/Video/Webcast, and Other. This year’s EIC Contest was sponsored by Friesens Publishing and Pew Charitable Trusts. The awards were announced at OWAA’s recent annual conference in Madison, Wisconsin.
Recognized as “The Voice of the Outdoors,” OWAA is the nation’s largest organization of professional outdoor journalists. The association’s membership includes writers, photographers, videographers, radio and TV personalities, digital storytellers, and artists.
