Lady Falcons top California to remain unbeaten

Ellie Haddad and Avianna Hernandez knocked in two goals apiece to spark Brownsville to a 5-3 victory over host California in its Section 2-A girls soccer opener on Monday.

Gloria Kovscek also found the back of the net for the unbeaten Lady Falcons who improved to 7-0 overall.

Despite the loss, the Lady Trojans (1-1, 1-2-1) became only the second team to score on Brownsville while also holding the Lady Falcons to their lowest output of 2026.

Brownsville has now out-scored its opponents 60-4 this season.

WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 10, WASHINGTON 0 — Kolbi Rastoka found the back of the net four times and added two assists as the Lady Raiders shut out the Lady Prexies in a non-section match.

Emily Rafferty contributed three goals and an assist and Ava DiAlessandro had one goal and five assists for Waynesburg (4-2-1), which also got a goal and an assist from Tess Pauley, a goal from Gracie Kinsey and an assist from Kaylee McLaughlin.

BETH-CENTER 2, CHARTIERS-HOUSTON 2 – Kendall Welsh and Kaylee Sawicky each scored a goal in the Lady Bulldogs’ Section 2-A draw with the host Lady Bucs.

Keira Lamp made 16 saves for Beth-Center (0-1-1, 2-4-2).

Grace Littlecott notched both goals for Chartiers-Houston (0-1-1, 2-3-1).

MOUNT PLEASANT 12, EAST ALLEGHENY 0 — Izzy Overly turned in a hat trick for the host Lady Vikings in a Section 4-2A win over the Lady Wildcats.

Camryn Kapr and Addison Cole both contributed two goals for Mount Pleasant, which also got one goal each from Kate Wisniewski, Dempsey Snyder, Gwen Podolinsky, Harley Demagall and Duvall. Goaltenders Samantha Hodges and Faith Stuart and Sam Hodges combined on the shutout.

ELIZABETH FORWARD 3, ALBERT GALLATIN 0 — The Lady Colonials fell to the host Lady Warriors in a Section 3-3A match.

NORWIN 12, CONNELLSVILLE 0 – The Lady Knights (1-1, 1-2-3) rolled past the Lady Falcons (0-2, 1-4) in a Section 1-4A match.

BELLE VERNON 0, THOMAS JEFFERSON 0 – Skylar Salay turned in a clean sheet with six saves for Belle Vernon (1-0-1, 2-1-3) in a Section 3-3A draw with the Lady Jaguars (0-1-1, 1-4-2).

BENTWORTH 3, SOUTHMORELAND 1 – Megan Keturakis scored

two goals and Bella Moyer had one as the unbeaten Lady Bearcats (5-0) topped the Lady Scotties (2-3) in a non-section match.

LAUREL HIGHLANDS 10, MCKEESPORT 1 – Jack Nairn rang up three goals and three assists in the Mustangs’ non-section victory over the host Tigers (2-2).

Roman George added two goals and two assists for Laurel Highlands (1-3) which also got a goal and an assist from Elliot Boor, two assists each from Matt Kolencik and Mason Cicci, and one goal apiece from Michael Aubele, Ethan Perkins, Landon Misiak and Ethan Yanosky.

CONNELLSVILLE 6, ALBERT GALLATIN 0 – Dylan Shallenberger pounded in four goals in the host Falcons’ non-section win over the Colonials (2-3).

Connor Basinger and Tristan Tiedeman added one goal each for Connellsville 92-2).

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

BROWNSVILLE 3, KEYSTONE OAKS 2 — The Lady Falcons stormed back from two sets down to knock off the Golden Eagles (0-4) in a non-section match by scores of 24-26, 18-25, 25-14, 25-14 and 15-13.

Aijanae Foster led Brownsville (1-2) with 10 kills and 12 digs, Abigayle Thomas contributed 10 kills and 10 service points, Eva Rechicar added nine kills and 10 service points, Nataya Williams chipped in with 33 assists and Amizhe Moore registered 10 kills.

The Lady Falcons also got 15 digs from Ashley Evanchak, 10 digs from Brooke Walters and five kills from Lena Richichar.

BENTWORTH 3, MAPLETOWN 0 – The Lady Bearcats (3-3) swept the Lady Maples in a non-section match by scores of 25-19, 25-22 and 25-21.

Sophia Vanata led Mapletown (1-4) with eight kills, three blocks, three digs and two aces and Willow Rudman had eight kills and six digs.

The Lady Maples also got five kills and six digs from Leah Williamson, seven assists and two digs from Lily Hawk, 10 assists from Leona Liggett and three aces from Brynlee McKnight.

BOYS GOLF

FRAZIER 214, WEST MIFFLIN 216; FRAZIER 214, GEIBEL CATHOLIC 239 — John Sinclair shot a 37 to help the host Commodores edge the Titans and also defeat the Gators in a Section 8-2A trimatch.

Tyler Jerico, Garrett Seich and Emmett Erderly all shot a 44 for Frazier with Gavin Seich shooting a 45.

Geibel’s John Hess took medalist honors with a 36. Also scoring for the Gators were Alice Popovich (44), Michael Novotny (49), Paige Dolan (54) and Mason Speeney (56).

CARMICHAELS 233, BENTWORTH 282 — Eli Hasting earned medalist honors with a 3-over-par 40 and Jayden Kerley shot a 41 in the Mikes’ Section 3-2A victory over the visiting Bearcats at Carmichaels Golf Course.

Also scoring for Carmichaels (6-3, 6-3) were Connor Lapana (44), Anthony Post (53) and Joby Pratt (44).

Cooper Piasecki shot a 47 for Bentworth (0-10, 0-12) and was followed by Wyatt McClain with a 50.

WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 188, JEFFERSON-MORGAN 199 — The Rockets’ Miles Sowden earned medalist honors with a 1-over-par 34 but Jefferson-Morgan fell to the host Raiders in a Section 3-2A match at Rohanna’s Golf Course.

Cole Headlee paced Waynesburg with a 36, Jarett Tretinik was right behind with a 37, Matt Eisiminger and Rykan Gustafson both carded a 38 and Ryan Midla had a 39.

Trenton Sowden had the second-best score for J-M with a 36 and was followed by Dominic Sowden (40), Chase Litman (43) and Brelyn Wood (46).

MOUNT PLEASANT 205, YOUGH 237 — Hunter Snyder carded a 36 to grab medalist honors in the Vikings’ win over the Cougars at Madison Golf Course.

Mount Pleasant also got a 40 from Ezra Bowman, a 42 from Austyn Gross, a 43 from Trever Gonofsky and a 44 from Quinn Painter.

Morgan Calderone had the top score for Yough with a 44.

GIRLS TENNIS

MOUNT PLEASANT 3, DERRY 2 — The Lady Vikings swept both doubles matches to earn a Section 1-2A victory over the Lady Trojans.

The doubles winners for Mount Pleasant were Dani Trainer and Claire Reese, and Chloe Zelmore and Hannah Shawley. Autum Jurkovic-Kuzma won at singles for the Lady Vikings.

FRANKLIN REGIONAL 5, CONNELLSVILLE 0 — The Lady Panthers swept the visiting Lady Falcons in a Section 1-3A match
