Lady Gators top Leechburg to snap section drought

Neville Petrosky totaled 17 kills and 18 digs as Geibel Catholic beat host Leechburg, 3-1, for its first section victory in several years in girls volleyball action on Tuesday night.
The Lady Gators dropped a close first set, 28-26, before sweeping the next three by scores of 25-12, 25-18 and 25-20 in Section 2-A play.
Nolace Petrosky added 12 kills and 18 digs, Mallory Clemmer also had 12 kills and Annabelle Kelly registered 30 assists.
FRAZIER 3, CARMICHAELS 0 – Allie Monachh had 13 kills and eight assists as the Lady Commodores swept past the host Lady Mikes in a Section 4-2A match.
Scores were 25-19, 25-18 and 25-21.
Frazier (3-0, 4-1) also got nine digs and eight service points from Grace Polkabla, five kills from Gionna Rumbaugh, nine assists from Morgan Fisher, six digs from Addison Hiles, four blocks from Mia West and three blocks from Anna Essington.
BROWNSVILLE 3, YOUGH 0 – Aijanae Foster racked up 19 kills as the Lady Falcons defeated the Lady Cougars in a Section 4-3A match by scores of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-23.
Ari Johnson accumulated 32 assists for Brownsville (1-2, 2-2), which also got six kills from Riley Rohland and 11 digs from Ashley Evanchak.
WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 3, MCGUFFEY 0 – Railey Bochna had 17 kills and five digs, Emily Rafferty contributed 13 kills, three aces and three digs, and Harper Grimes chipped in 12 kills and three digs in the unbeaten Lady Raiders’ Section Section 4-3A sweep over the Lady Highlanders.
Waynesburg (3-0, 5-0) won by scores of 25-12, 25-17 and 25-16.
The Lady Raiders also got 33 assists from Chatham Knight, and 17 digs, two assists and six aces from Lelia McCollum.
GREENSBURG SALEM 3, BELLE VERNON 0 – The Lady Lions triumphed over the visiting Lady Leopards in a Section 2-4A by scores of 25-9, 25-15 and 25-23.
Abby Nickolls had 13 kills and two aces for Belle Vernon (1-2), which also got 23 digs from Mailey Hayes, 13 assists from Nazara Nickens and two aces from Victoria Alexander.
BETH-CENTER 3, MAPLETOWN 0 – The Lady Bulldogs cruised past the host Lady Maples in a Section 4-2A match by scores of 25-20, 25-16 and 25-8.
Sophia Vanata led Mapletown (0-2, 1-5) with four kills, two assists and two aces. The Lady Maples also got four assists and three digs from Leona Liggett, four digs and three aces from Willow Rudman, four digs from Brynlee McKnight and three assists from Lily Hawk.
CHARTIERS-HOUSTON 3, SOUTHMORELAND 0 – The Lady Bucs swept the Lady Scotties in a Section 4-3A match.
LATROBE 3, CONNELLSVILLE 1 – The host Lady Wildcats knocked off the Lady Falcons in a Section 2-5A match by scores of 25-17, 22-25, 25-11 and 25-21.
BOYS SOCCER
SERRA CATHOLIC 8, BETH-CENTER 5 – Parker Amos recorded a hat trick but it wasn’t enough as the host Bulldogs lost to the Eagles in a Section 2-A match.
Ryder Roule scored the other two goals for Beth-Center (1-2-1).
BELLE VERNON 6, BROWNSVILLE 3 – Jordan Jerome had two goals and an assist and Brody Shanefelter also found the back of the net twice as the visiting Leopards doubled up the Falcons in a Section 5-2A match.
Chris Showman contributed a goal and an assist and Nate Stangroom scored one goal for the Leopards (4-0, 6-0-1), who also got assists from Carter Stairs and Jesse Sobczak.
Jaxson Hurst made four saves and Logan Beech made one Belle Vernonk, which led 2-0 at halftime.
Tristen King had a goal and two assists for Brownsville, which also got goals from Earl Degayo and Jordan Invorvia. Camden Kline made 12 saves.
MOUNT PLEASANT 8, LIGONIER VALLEY 0 – Tyke Snyder notched a hat trick in the Vikings’ Section 5-2A win over the visiting Rams.
Brownsville also got one apiece from Grant Zahrobsky, Karter Spaw, Cayden Pickens and Austyn Gross. Goalkeeper Grayson Gardner recorded the shutout.
BENTWORTH 15, CALIFORNIA 1 – Adam Moessner tallied four goals and Dillan Colbert drilled in a pair in the Bearcats’ Section 2-A win over the Trojans.
Bentworth also got goals from Jude Laskey, Garrett Allen, Cameron Butler, Billy Moyer, Lucas Boyd, Parker Lang, Caden Hackinson, Charles Nuttall and Austin Hollier.
NORWIN 11, CONNELLSVILLE 1 – Dylan Shallenberger had the lone goal for the visiting Falcons in a Section 1-4A match against the Knights.
SOUTHMORELAND 4, DERRY 0 – Caleb Hart, Liam Smith, Andrew Kotecki and Tristan Pettitt had one goal apiece in the Scotties’ Section 5-2A victory over the Trojans (1-2, 2-3).
Gaolkeeper Nathan Nguyen had the clean sheet for Southmoreland (2-1, 2-3).
WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 1, SOUTH ALLEGHENY 0 – Landon Hogue put in the only goal as the Raiders (2-3) edged the host Gladiators in a non-section match.
Blake Tennant assisted on the game-winning goal.
THOMAS JEFFERSON 5, ALBERT GALLATIN 0 – The Jaguars blanked the Colonials in a Section 2-3A match.

LATROBE 3, MOUNT PLEASANT 2 – The Lady Vikings dropped a non-section match to the Wildcats.
Mount Pleasant’s two wins came from its doubles teams of Dani Trainer and Claire Reese, and Chloe Zelmore and Hannah Shawley.
BOYS GOLF
ELIZABETH FORWARD 195, LAUREL HIGHLANDS 208 – The first-place Warriors topped the visiting Mustangs in a Section 2-3A match at Youghiogheny Country Club.
Laurel Highlands (9-2, 9-3) needed a win in a rematch with EF at South Union Municipal Golf Course on Thursday to qualify for the postseason.
Aaron Didjunas led Elizabeth Forward with a an even-par 36 and was followed by Luke Boyer (37, Weston Malek (40) and Julian Hredocik and Brody Gilmore (41).
Aiden Milsom and Dan O’Neal paced the Mustangs with a 38 and 39, respectively. Kayden Smith and Ryan Revak each carded a 40 and Damon Revak’s 43 rounded out the scoring for LH.
AVELLA 209, FRAZIER 227 – Logan Gamrod took medalist honors with a 36 in the visiting Eagles’ non-section victory over the Commodores at Linden Hall.
Tristan Davis carded a 40 for Avella, which also got a 43 from both Cameron Ullom and Noah Greene, and a 47 from Gabe Wright.
Tyler Jerico was the top scorer for Frazier with a 43 and John Sinchar and Caden Biddle each had a 45. Garrett Seich (46) and Emmett Erdely (48) rounded out the scoring for the Commodores.
BELLE VERNON 231, UNIONTOWN 244 – Zach Plymire shot a 42 as the Leopards beat the visiting Red Raiders in a Section 2-3A match at Cedarbrook’s Gold Course.
Luke Edwards had a 45 for Belle Vernon (3-7, 3-8) and was followed by Ryder Schmidt (47), Alex Quiggle (48) and Gino Scalise (49).
Elim Martin carded a 44 for Uniontown and was followed by Liam Glover (48), Jason Vansickle (49), Jackson Opar (51) and JJ Stewart (53).
GIRLS GOLF
MOUNT PLEASANT 206, DEER LAKES 216 – Morgan Miller was the medalist with a 48 in the Lady Vikings’ Section 1-2A victory over Deer Lakes.
Also scoring for Mount Pleasant (5-4, 8-5) were Victoria Tepper (51), Ally Christner (52) and Layla Gratzinger (55).
