Brownsville blanks C-H in key in section match

Despite having to switch venues on the day of the match and coming off its first loss of the season, Brownsville edged Chartiers-Houston, 1-0, in girls soccer Section 2-1A play on Monday at Buccaneer Stadium in Houston.
The game was scheduled to be played at Redstone Field in Republic, but due to inclement weather and the field being grass, the decision was made to move the contest to the turf at Chartiers-Houston.
The rematch is scheduled for Oct. 12, and although no official change has been announced, the contest will be contested at Redstone Field.
The match was tight throughout, but the Falcons scored the lone goal of the game with 2:21 remaining in the first half when Maria Duda set up Addy Brown and a 1-0 lead.
Brownsville senior keeper Ava Rohland made 12 saves for the clean sheet. The Falcons have six shutouts this season.
Brownsville had been scoring at a record pace, but the last two section matches were defensive struggles, as the Falcons dropped a 2-1 tilt to defending WPIAL Class A champion Bentworth (2-0-0, 6-0-0) last Wednesday prior to Monday’s game.
Brownsville improved to 2-1-0 in section play and 8-1-0 overall.
The Buccaneers fell to 1-2-1 in the section and 4-4-1 across all competitions.
WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 9, CHARLEROI 0 — Ava DiAlesandro scored three goals and added a pair of assists in the Lady Raiders’ Section 1-2A victory over the Lady Cougars.
Emily Rafferty also had a hat trick with an assist, Tess Pauley contributed a goal and three assists and Kolbi Rastoka had a goal and two assists from Waynesburg, which also got a goal from Serenity Taylor and an assist from Larsyn Huffman.
Goalkeeper Madi Price recorded the shutout.
BELLE VERNON 3, ALBERT GALLATIN 0 — Raegan Sobczak scored one goal and assisted on two others as the Lady Leopards triumphed over the Lady Colonials in a Section 3-3A match.
Ali Watson and Chessa Mertz each netted a goal for Belle Vernon (3-0-1, 4-1-3) which also got an assist from Jordyn McDowell.
The match was scoreless at halftime. Lady Leopards goalkeeper Skylar Salay made five saves in turning in the clean sheet.
BOYS SOCCER
MOUNT PLEASANT 1, RINGGOLD 0 — Tyke Snyder scored the lone goal of the non-section match with an assist from Lukas Showman as the Vikings topped the Rams.
Goalkeeper Grayson Gardner had the shutout for Mount Pleasant.
CHARLEROI 3, WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 3 — Isaac McCartney scored two goals and Erik Yorty added one as the Raiders played to a dray with the Cougars in a Section 4-2A match.
Adolph Jean Noel had two goals for Charleroi and Luke Mazon also scored.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
GEIBEL CATHOLIC 3, TURKEYFOOT VALLEY 0 — The Gators earned a non-section sweep over the Rams at The Swamp.
Geibel Catholic won by set scores of 25-5, 25-6 and 25-12.
Nolace Petrosky led the Gators offensively with 12 kills. She also had six aces.
Neville Petrosky and Angela Li each had nine digs. Nora Al-Fakih added six aces.
Annabelle Kelly led the match with 15 assists.
ALBERT GALLAIN 3, BENTWORTH 1 — The Lady Colonials rebounded from dropping the first set to knock off the Lady Bearcats in a non-section match by scores of 16-25, 25-22, 25-15 and 25-16.
Gabby Penrose rang up 15 kills for Albert Gallatin, which also got nine kills and four aces from Isabelle Usher and 35 assists from Riylee Able.
BELLE VERNON 4, SOUTH ALLEGHENY 1 — Lilly Hill had nine kills and Victoria Alexander added seven as the Lady Leopards beat the Lady Gladiators in a non-section match.
Scores were 25-21, 15-25, 25-16 and 27-25.
Abby Nickolls had 26 assists for Belle Vernon, which also got 26 digs from Mailey Hayes, 23 digs from Adriana Mochnaly and four aces from Evelyn Matthews.
FORT CHERRY 3, FRAZIER 0 — The undefeated Lady Rangers (5-0) rolled past the Lady Commodores in a non-section match by scores of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-17.
Allie Monack had 14 kills and 13 assists for Frazier (5-2), which also got seven kills and 10 blocks from Mia West, 14 assists from Morgan Fisher and 11 digs from Addison Hiles.
BOYS GOLF
MOUNT PLEASANT 210, GREENSBURG CENTRAL CATHOLIC 246 — Austyn Gross took medalist honors with a 37 as the Vikings defeated the Centurions in a Section 2-2A match.
Ezra Bowman carded a 39 for Mount Pleasant and was followed by Hunter Snyder (41), Quinn Painter (46) and Zachary Frye (47).
JT Stawovy led GCC with a 40.

LATROBE 194, CONNELLSVILLE 238 — The Lady Wildcats beat the Lady Falcons in a Section 3-3A match.
Carly Wissinger shot a 43 for Latrobe. Addie Richter led Connellsville with a 53.
