Waynesburg remains undefeated in volleyball

Harper Grimes totaled 13 kills, four aces, four digs and three blocks as Waynesburg Central remained perfect on the season with a 3-1 victory over Yough in Section 4-3A girls volleyball action on Tuesday.
The Lady Raiders won by scores of 25-16, 23-25, 25-4 and 25-10.
Railey Bochna contributed 15 kills, two aces and four digs, and Emily Rafferty added 11 kills and seven digs for Waynesburg (4-0, 7-0), which also got 41 assists, six aces and three digs from Chatham Knight, 15 digs and two aces from Lelia McCollum and four kills and two digs from Emma Blair.
BELLE VERNON 3, WEST MIFFLIN 1 — Abby Nickolls had nine kills and 20 assists in the Lady Leopards’ Section 2-4A victory over the Lady Titans.
Belle Vernon won by scores of 18-25, 25-17, 25-17 and 25-22.
Lilly Hill had eight kills and Victoria Alexander notched seven kills for the Lady Leopards, who also got 29 digs and three aces from Mailey Hayes, 17 digs from Evelyn Matthews, 10 digs from Nazara Nickens and three aces from Adriana Mochnaly.
BROWNSVILLE 3, CHARLEROI 0 — Arianna Johnson had 24 assists, Ashley Evanchak contributed 20 digs and Brooke Walters rang up 18 service points and nine digs as the Lady Falcons swept the Lady Cougars in a Section 4-3A match.
Set scores were 25-17, 25-20 and 25-19.
Brownsville (3-2, 4-2) also got eight kills from Lena Rechichar, seven kills apiece from Aijanae Foster and Riley Rohland, and six kills from Amizhe Moore.
FRAZIER 3, JEFFERSON-MORGAN 1 — Allie Monack racked up 19 kills and 14 assists in the Lady Commodores’ Section 4-2A win over the Lady Rockets.
Set scores were 25-18, 25-21, 20-25 and 25-21.
Morgan Fisher contributed 17 assists and eight digs for Frazier, which also got nine kills and four blocks from Mia West, 14 assists and 10 digs from Addison Hiles and three blocks from Anna Essington.
CARMICHAELS 3, WEST GREENE 0 — Amelia Wiles had five kills, Reese Marzo registered eight aces and Emma Arbogast collected 15 digs as the Lady Mikes swept the Lady Pioneers in a Section 4-2A match.
Set scores were 25-17, 25-14 and 25-20.
LATROBE 3, ALBERT GALLATIN 0 — The Lady Wildcats beat the Lady Colonials in a Section 2-5A match by scores of 25-22, 25-11 and 25-16.
Gabby Penrose had four kills, two aces and 10 digs for Albert Gallatin.
CALIFORNIA 3, MAPLETOWN 0 — The Lady Trojans swept the Lady Maples in a Section 4-2A match by scores of 25-10, 25-16 and 25-21.
Willow Rudman had three kills, three digs and two blocks for Mapletown (0-4, 1-7) and Sophia Vanata had five digs and two aces.
FRANKLIN REGIONAL 3, CONNELLSVILLE 1 — The Lady Panthers bested the Lady Falcons in a Section 2-5A match.

LAUREL HIGHLANDS 8, ALBERT GALLATIN 1 — Roman George turned in a hat trick as the Mustangs knocked off the Colonials in a Section 2-3A match.
Jack Nairn and Elliot Boor both had two goals and an assist for Laurel Highlands, which also got a goal from Just Yauger and an assist from Lucas Deguia.
BENTWORTH 6, BETH-CENTER 0 — Adam Moessner tallied four goals and Charles Nuttall and Garrett Allen had one each in the Bearcats’ Section 2-A win over the Bulldogs.
Billy Moyer and Caden Hackinson both had two assists for Bentworth (6-0, 6-1).
YOUGH 10, BROWNSVILLE 0 — John King made seven saves and Canden Kline stopped six shots as the Falcons faced a heavy barrage in falling to the Cougars in a Section 5-2A match.
FOX CHAPEL 11, CONNELLSVILLE 1 — Jace Gratchic scored the lone goal for the Falcons in a Section 1-4A loss to the Foxes.

SECTION 2-AA QUALIFIER — Mount Pleasant’s Hunter Snyder took medalist honors with a 5-over-par 76 and was one of three local players to advance in the WPIAL Boys Section 2-AA Individual Qualifier at Champions Lakes Golf Course on Tuesday.
Southmoreland’s Gray Moyer and Brock Pitts, who each shot 80, also were among six golfers to move on to the first round of the finals at South Hills Country Club on Sept. 29.
CONNELLSVILLE 207, UNIONTOWN 240 — Braydon Rockwell took medalist honors with a 37 as the Falcons triumphed over the Red Raiders in a Section 2-3A match.
Liam Glover shot a 42 for Uniontown.
GIRLS GOLF
MOUNT PLEASANT 193, SOUTHMORELAND 207 — The Lady Scotties’ Kendall Campbell took medalist honors with a 43, but the Lady Vikings came away with the Section 1-2A win.
Morgan Miller led Mount Pleasant with a 45 and was followed by Ally Christner (46), Victoria Tepper (50) and Layla Gratzinger (52).
Paige Gunderson carded a 46 for Southmoreland. Riyah Younkin and Kyleigh Fedorko each shot 59.
BELLE VERNON 210, CONNELLSVILLE 221; PENN-TRAFFORD 197, CONNELLSVILLE 221 — Jessa Haney shot a 46 in the Lady Leopards’ Section 3-3A victory over the Lady Falcons.
Addie Richter had a 49 for Connellsville.
The Falcons also fell to the Lady Warriors who were led by Izzie Fontana’s 43.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
CALIFORNIA 15, EAST ALLEGHENY 50; CALIFORNIA 15, SOUTH ALLEGHENY 50 — The Trojans’ Carter Kent placed first with a time of 19:25 as California recorded a pair of wins in a Division II, Section 2 tri-meet.
Quinn Barbero was second with a time of 20:47 for the Trojans. Also scoring for California were Ian Grodz (21:49), Charles Meiss (22:14) and Evan Balazick (22:25).
BELLE VERNON 15, SERRA CATHOLIC 50; BELLE VERNON 15, SOUTHMORELAND 50 — The Leopards’ Leo Soto finished first with a time of 17:34 in victories over the Eagles and Scotties in a Division II, Section 5 tri-meet.
Belle Vernon improved to 4-1.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
CALIFORNIA 15, EAST ALLEGHENY 50; CALIFORNIA 15, SOUTH ALLEGHENY 50 — The Lady Trojans cruised to a pair of wins in a Division II, Section 5 tri-meet.
California’s Delaney Ridge took first place with a time of 25:58 and was followed across the finish line by teammates Macie Huba (30:13), Kyleigh Pagac (30:56), Paityn Molish (31:23) and Eva Kelly (49:08).
BELLE VERNON 18, SERRA CATHOLIC 48; BELLE VERNON 15, SOUTHMORELAND 50 — Lily Walsh was the overall winner with a time of 21:22 as the Lady Leopards raced to victory over the Lady Eagles and Lady Scotties in a Division II, Section 5 tri-meet.
Belle Vernon remains unbeaten at 5-0.
