3 area golfers advance to second round of WPIAL AA finals
Carmichaels junior Eli Hastings had the top score among local golfers with an 8-over-par 79 in the first round of the WPIAL Class 2A individual boys golf championships held at South Hills Country Club on Tuesday.
Hastings, who shot 40 on the front 9 and 39 on the back, is in a tie for 16th place heading into the second round, which takes place next Tuesday at Oakmont Country Club.
Only the top 36 move on to the second round.
Two other area golfers will be moving on. Mount Pleasant sophomore Hunter Snyder shot a 9-over 80 and tied for 18th place. Jefferson-Morgan senior Miles Sowden carded a 12-over and tied for 29th.
Other local golfers who participated were Geibel Catholic senior John Hess (87), Southmoreland’s Gray Moyer (94) and Brock Pitts (95), Waynesburg Central’s Ryan Midlan (96), Carmichaels’ Anthony Post and Brownsville’s Dominic Capan.
