B-C’s Brown surges to top of TD Club standings
The Herald-Standard Touchdown Club leader is still a player from Beth-Center after Week Five of the high school football season.
It’s just a different name in the No. 1 spot.
The Bulldogs’ Enzo Brown took off for touchdown runs of 71, 40 and 53 yards during a 232-yard rushing performance in tallying 18 points in his team’s 35-0 victory at West Greene on Friday night. That upped Brown’s total for the season to 80 points and jumped him over teammate DeSean Whipkey, who was held scoreless in the victory and remained in second place with 68 points.
B-C kicker Hunter Bobbs banged all five of his extra-point attempts through the uprights to give him a contest-leading 22 on the season and 28 points overall to put him in a tie for 18th place.
The highest-scoring player of Week Five was Uniontown’s Marcus Evans who rang up 24 points with touchdown receptions of 32, 41 and 14 yards from Brayden Hinzy while also finding the end zone on a 40-yard run during the Red Raiders’ 62-0 win at Yough.
Hinzy tops the area in touchdown passes with 13 on the season.
Evans moved into third place with 66 points overall, two points ahead of Waynesburg Central’s Ky-mani Sumpter who has 64.
Sumpter was the second-leading scorer for the week with 20 points on TD runs of 2, 38 and 21 yards and a two-point conversion in the Raiders’ 44-14 win over Mount Pleasant. Teagan Crouse’s two scoring passes of 34 yards to Jack Ricciuti and 21 yards to Hudson Bennett puts him in a second-place tie with California’s Brandon Meier in that category at 10 for the year.
Two players who did not score in Week Five occupy fifth and sixth place. Southmoreland’s Dawson Wolfe remained at 56 points for fifth after the Scotties’ 41-0 loss to Elizabeth Forward. Connellsville’s Linkon Keller stayed at 53 points and is in sixth after the Falcons’ 64-0 loss to Penn-Trafford.
Mount Pleasant’s Tristan Wtorkiewicz had a touchdown reception of 5 yards from Bobby Smithnosky and ran for a 4-yard score in the Vikings’ loss to Waynesburg. The 12 points has Wtorkiewicz alone in seventh place with 48 points.
Mapletown’s Carson Vanata had a 2-yard touchdown run during a 27-12 loss to Jefferson-Morgan and is in eighth place with 44 points.
One of Meier’s three TD passes was a 60-yarder to Alan Dennis, who also had touchdown runs of 80 and 12 yards in an 18-point effort during the Trojans’ 36-0 victory at Frazier. Dennis moved into a tie with Jefferson-Morgan’s Liam Rogers for ninth place with 42 points.
Rogers turned in the longest touchdown run of the season with a 98-yarder against Mapletown. He added a 24-yard rushing TD and pulled in a 65-yard scoring pass from Triton Farabee in scoring 18 points.
Belle Vernon’s Chace Petrosky also had a three-touchdown day in a 49-14 victory over Greensburg Salem, scoring on runs of 11 and 6 yards and on a 39-yard pass from Jace Gedekoh. The 18 points lifted Petrosky into a four-way tie for 11th place with Crouse, Brownsville’s Silas Patterson and Meier at 36 points each.
Patterson accounted for all of the Falcons’ points on gallops of 67 yards and 60 yards in a 52-12 loss at South Allegheny.
