California boys, girls sweep track quadrangulars
California picked up victories over Beth-Center, Brownsville and Monessen in a boys Section 6-2A quadrangular track and field meet at Trojan Stadium Tuesday.
The Vulcans defeated the Bulldogs, 110-39, the Falcons, 97-43, and the Greyhounds, 128-7. Brownsville beat B-C, 84-51 and Monessen, 98-16. Beth-Center topped the Greyhounds, 97-28.
Alan Dennis was a double winner in the sprints for the Trojans, winning the 100 (11.68) and the 200 (24.02).
Other individual winners for California were Niamh McClarlin in the 1,600 (4:53.12), Carter Kent in the 800 (2:05.41), Lee Qualk in the long jump (21-6), Quinn Barbero in the pole vault (8-0), Christian Ross in the triple jump (39-11), Matthew Miller in the shot put (35-5) and Landon Abercrombie in the javelin (140-7).
Individual winners for Brownsville were Camden Wellington in the 400 (56.43), Silas Patterson in the high jump (5-8) and Elijah Booker in the discus (120-1).
Individual winners for Beth-Center were Jason Zellie in the 110 high hurdles (19.25), Jeremiah Robertson in the 300 hurdles (47.48) and Brandon Remington in the 3,200 (11:48.90).
In the relays, Beth-Center was first in the 3,200 (11:00.00), California was victorious in the 400 (45.62) and Brownsville won the 1,600 (3:54.83).
Waynesburg Central 111, Charleroi 39; Waynesburg Central 142, West Greene 3 – Waynesburg Central beat Charleroi and West Greene in a Section 6-2A dual meet.
The Raiders’ Alex Eck earned individual wins in the 800 (2:29.06) and the triple jump (38-1). Other individual winners for Waynesburg were Teagan Crouse in the 100 (11.85), Zack Andrews in the 300 hurdles (42.66), Dalton Jeffers in the 200 (24.61), Caden Fowler in the shot put (38-7), Jeffrey Blair in the discus (112-4) and Jackson Brunell in the pole vault (13-0).
The Raiders swept the relays, winning the 3,200 (Will Maxwell, Mylo Snyder, Braden Walawander and Nate Fox in 9:40.16), 1,600 (Mason Schroyer, Fox, Andrews and Eck in 3:50.42) and 400 (Jeffers, Jack Ricciuti, Andrews and Crouse in 45.63).
Charleroi’s Braddin Lunger was a triple winner, placing first in the 110 high hurdles (15.77), long jump (20-8.5) and high jump (6-0). Other individual winners for the Cougars were Eli Short in the 1,600 (5:48), Nico Fiordigigli in the 3,200 (13:17.97) and Connor Luckock in the javelin (136-0).
Yough 128, Geibel Catholic 13; Mount Pleasant 141, Geibel Catholic 3 – The Vikings’ Aidan Johnson won the 110 and 300 hurdles, and the long (18-04) and triple (39-08) jumps. His time in the 110 hurdles was 17.86. He won the 300 hurdles in 44.20. Teammate Jarett Garn won the 100 in 11.89 and the 200 in 24.18.
Mount Pleasant’s Damien Ohler won the 1,600 and 800 in times of 5:05.96 and 2:34.85.
The Vikings’ Bryson Bankosh (400/55.16; HJ/5-07) won two individual events. Teammate Gage Sowers won the pole vault in 13-00.
Mount Pleasant won the 3,200, 400 and 1,600-meter relays. The Vikings crossed the finish line in 10:22.54 to win the 3,200 relay. They won the 400 relay in 47.62 and the 1,600 in 4:07.29.
The Gators’ Anthony Nickischer was fifth in the 100 in 12.46. Teammate Anthony Startare was third in the long jump (18-00).
Girls track and field
California 71, Brownsville 70; California 101, Beth-Center 38; California 113, Monessen 14; Brownsville 105, Beth-Center 34; Brownsville 134, Monessen 5; Beth-Center 86, Monessen 32 – The host Lady Trojans edged Brownsville by a single point and also earned wins over Beth-Center and Monessen in a Section 6-2A quadrangular meet.
The Lady Falcons went 2-1, defeating B-C and the Lady Greyhounds, and the Lady Bulldogs beat Monessen.
Brownsville’s Aijanae Foster was a triple winner, taking first in the 100 high hurdles (16.27), 300 hurdles (53.84) and the high jump (5-2). The Lady Falcons’ Alexa Lewandowsky was victorious in the shot put (27-3) and discus (90-6), and Caitlin Miske won the triple jump (34-1).
Leading the way for the Lady Trojans was Morgan Ross who won the 100 (13.66) and the 200 (28.63). Other individual winners for California were Gianna Smith in the 400 (1:08.30), Lauren Hartley in the 800 (2:52.12), Lucia Meiss in the 3,200 (15:57.90), Ella Neil in the long jump (15-9) and Addison Gregory in the javelin (77-9).
Jaslyn Debnar was the lone individual winner for Beth-Center in the 1,600 (6:36.10).
Brownsville won the 400 relay (53.08) and the 1,600 relay (5:10.01). The Lady Bulldogs triumphed in the 3,200 relay (12:24.00).
Waynesburg Central 114, Charleroi 29; Waynesburg Central 102, West Greene 28 – The Lady Raiders came out on top against the Lady Cougars and the Lady Pioneers in a 6-2A dual meet.
Reiley Bochna leaped to a trio of victories for Waynesburg, winning the long jump (15-3), triple jump (31-9) and high jump (5-0). The Lady Raiders’ Emily Carder placed first in the shot put 27-9 and discus (72-7) and Madison Blair won the 100 (13.58) and pole vault (8-6).
Other individual winners for Waynesburg were Reiley Shultz in the 1,600 (7:04), Kiley Bledsoe in the 3,200 (17:06) and Jaden Tretnik in the javelin (95-2).
West Greene’s Eryka Hackney won a pair of events, taking first in the 400 (1:07.86) and the 200 (28.37). The Lady Pioneers’ Bethany Courtwright won the 800 (3:14).
Charleroi’s Eden Smith took first in the 300 hurdles (52.93).
Waynesburg won all three relay events, placing first in the 3,200 (Peyton Cowell, Bella Haas, Leah Ayers and Shultz in 14:06.81), 1,600 (Lelia McCollum, Ani Cree, Haas and Ayers in 5:05) and 400 (Blair, McCollum, Carol McLaughlin and Blair Gansor in 54.86).
Geibel Catholic 73, Yough 36; Mount Pleasant 116, Geibel Catholic 33 – Mount Pleasant’s Rylin Bugosh won the 100 and 200-meter dashes. She crossed the finish line in 13.78 in the 100 and 28.59 in the 200. Teammate Kaylea Voke was victorious in the 1,600 and 3,200. She won the 1,600 in 6:27.79 and the 3,200 in 14:12.28. The Lady Vikings’ Adi Gardner won the 100 and 300 hurdles in times of 19.22 and 56.36. Maddie Barrick won the 800 in 2:41.49 and the pole vault (7-06).
Geibel’s Emma Larkin won the 400-meter dash in 1:02.72 and the long jump (14-04). Teammate AnnaBelle Kelly won the shot put (23-05). The Lady Gators’ Mallory Clemmer was second in the shot put (22-06). Geibel’s Sarah Shumar was fourth in the javelin (59-11).
Mount Pleasant’s Colbie Potoka won the javelin (67-03). Teammates Victoria Tepper (HJ/4-03) and Brooklyn Ulery (TJ/28-05) were also victorious in the field.
The Lady Vikings won the 3,200-meter relay in 12:03.18; 400 relay in 58.88 and 1,600 relay in 4:44.81.
