Pritts brothers finish 1-2 for Falcons in win over Scotties

Ellic and Jake Pritts pulled away in leading Connellsville to a 15-50 non-section victory over Southmoreland on Tuesday at Connellsville.

Ellic, a freshman, won his first varsity race in a time of 17:30. Jake followed in a time of 17:40.

Teammate Dane Pavlovich was third in 19:51.

The Scotties’ Dylan Bierhals crossed the finish line in 19:53 to finish fourth. The Falcons’ Cory Stanton was fifth in 21:14.

Connellsville’s Addy Lane won the girls race in a time of 22:13. Teammate Abby Zavatchan was second in 23:18 and the Lady Falcons’ Trinity Moore took third in 25:08.

Connellsville’s Jordan Ranker (27:21) and Julie Flores (31:23) were fourth and fifth, as the Lady Falcons earned a 15-50 win.

Uniontown duo sweeps dual meet — Uniontown seniors Ethan Syner and Arrington Scott crossed the finish line first in their respective races against Brownsville in non-section action at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus.

Syner crossed the finish line in 18:21 and Scott in 22:34.

The Red Raiders’ Logan Davis was second in 19:07 and Matthew Page took third in 20:26.

Uniontown’s Zachary Fisher (20:30) and Stephen Chapley (21:40) rounded out the top five.

The Falcons’ Owen Shimshock was sixth in 21:44.

The Lady Red Raiders’ Charley Murtha was second in the girls race with a time of 23:17. Teammate Hannah Foster placed third in 23:25.

Geibel Catholic’s Emma Larkin, who was running as an independent, was fourth in 23:34.

Uniontown’s Kiley Abbott was fifth in 25:13.

Boys soccer

Connellsville 4, Hempfield 2 — Dylan Shallenberger’s brace and goals from Conner Basinger and William Gillott helped the Falcons to a non-section victory over the Spartans at Hempfield Spartans Stadium.

Connellsville keeper Hunter Brown made six saves, as the Falcons improved to 1-1 in overall play.

Mount Pleasant 8, Brownsville 1 — Lukas Showman’s hat-trick was more than enough scoring for the Vikings in a Section 4-2A triumph at Vikings Stadium.

Teammate Grant Zahrobsky scored twice and had two assists for the home team. Tyler Barron, Tyler Kurtz and Damien Ohler each scored a goal, as Mount Pleasant improved to 1-0 in section play and 2-0 overall.

Bryson Bankosh had four assists.

The Vikings had a 4-0 lead at halftime.

Belle Vernon 2, Uniontown 1 — Logan Metzger scored with 16 seconds remaining in regulation and the Leopards’ Jesse Sobczak added the game winner in double overtime to earn a Section 3-3A victory at Bill Power Stadium.

Metzer and Sobczak assisted on each other’s tallies.

Uniontown (0-1-0, 0-1-0) had a 1-0 lead at halftime following Ian Roderick’s goal, but Belle Vernon (1-0-0, 1-1-0) was able to rally for the win.

Red Raider keeper Noah Holland made 15 saves.

Morgan Bunch stopped seven shots on target for the Leopards.

Thomas Jefferson 3, Laurel Highlands 0 — The Jaguars put eight shots on Mustang keeper Daniel O’Neal, who stopped five attempts, but the visitors were able to put a trifecta of balls into the net for a Section 2-3A victory at Mustang Field.

Laurel Highlands’ Cole Radcliffe was in position several times for a goal but his scoring opportunities were wiped away by Thomas Jefferson (1-0, 2-0).

The Mustangs’ Brody Baker had a goal-line clearance in the team’s section and overall opener.

Waynesburg Central 3, Derry Area 3 — Brendan Cole had a hat-trick for the Raiders, but the Trojans also scored three goals in a draw in Section 4-2A play at Waynesburg Stadium.

Both teams earned a point in their first match of the season.

Ringgold 4, Albert Gallatin 0 — The Rams used a three-goal second half to turn a close match into a comfortable victory in Section 2-3A play at Joe Montana Stadium.

Izaiah Wilson sent a cross to James Lytle, who finished with 3:50 remaining in the first half for what would be the game-winning goal.

Ringgold (1-0-0, 2-0-0) took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.

Wilson scored his second goal of the season in as many matches at the sixth minute of the second half after playing a throw-in from Jay Jaki for a 2-0 advantage.

The Rams’ Jaxon Wichterman and Nate Alvarez scored for a four-goal lead. Alvarez’s cross set-up Wichterman’s tally, and Michael Stasko played a ball to the front post from the corner, where he sent the ball to Alvarez, who made a move around a defender before finding the back of the net.

Ringgold maintained the majority of possession, and its backline limited the Colonials’ offensive opportunities to help Donovan Fortuna earn his second clean sheet in as many matches this season.

Girls volleyball

Brownsville 3, Yough 2 — The Lady Falcons earned a non-section victory over the Lady Cougars at Brownsville Area High School.

Brownsville won the first set, 25-12, before Yough tied the match at one-set apiece following a 25-23 victory. The Lady Falcons won the next set, 25-14, and the Lady Cougars forced a five set following a 27-25 triumph.

Brownsville won the decisive fifth set, 15-12, to improve to 2-0 overall this season.

University of Virginia commit and senior Skyler Gates led the home team with 21 kills, 12 service points and seven blocks.

The Lady Falcons’ Ari Johnson had 15 assists and 11 service points.

Ashley Evanchak (25 digs), Kenzie Adams (17 assists) and Abby Thomas (4 blocks) paced Brownsville in their respective statistical categories.

The Lady Falcons’ Amizhe Moore had 11 service points and five kills.

Frazier 3, Laurel Highlands 1 — The Lady Commodores lost the first set but won the next three for a non-section victory over the Fillies.

Laurel Highlands won its set by a score of 25-22 before Frazier won by scores of 25-11, 27-25 and 25-22.

The Lady Commodores’ Maddie Salisbury led her team in kills with 29. Teammate Allie Monack had 23 assists and nine kills. Addison Hiles had 18 digs and service points for Frazier (1-1).

Frazier’s Addison Schultz had six blocks. Teammate Mia West added five blocks and had nine service points. Morgan Fisher had 14 assists.

Waynesburg Central 3, Albert Gallatin 1 — The Lady Raiders earned a sweep in non-section action.

The set scores were 25-12, 25-22 and 25-18.

Waynesburg’s Ani Cree had 14 kills, five digs and three aces. Teammate Gina Tedrow had 13 assists and eight digs. Chatham Knight also had 13 assists.

Emily Rafferty chipped in with 11 digs and eight kills for the Lady Raiders (1-0).

Waynesburg’s Harper Grimes (6 kills, 3 digs) and Lelia McCollum (15 digs, 2 aces) also contributed to the Lady Raiders’ victory.

The Neighborhood Academy 3, Geibel Catholic 1 — The Lady Gators fought for a tiebreaker to win the third set, but the Lady Bulldogs didn’t let the loss affect them in winning the fourth set to clinch the non-section match at The Neighborhood Academy.

The Lady Bulldogs won the first two sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-15, but Geibel (1-1) won the third set, 26-14. The Neighborhood Academy won the fourth set, 25-13.

The Lady Gators’ Nolace Petrosky had eight kills and five aces. Teammate Mallory Clemmer added seven kills. Sarah Shumar set-up her teammates in scoring with nine assists.

Angela Li and Annabel Kelly had eight digs apiece for Geibel.

The Lady Gators’ Matilda Stacoviak was a strong presence off the net and played balls off her block.

Boys golf

Mount Pleasant 225, Jeannette 250 — The Vikings topped the Jayhawks in Section 2-2A play at Greensburg Country Club.

Mount Pleasant’s Austyn Gross had the low-round for both teams with a 43 on the front-nine. The Vikings’ Tanner Frye had a 44 and teammate Nico Pisula carded a 45. Trever Gonofsky (46) and Darren Kinneer (47) closed the scoring for Mount Pleasant (4-1, 5-1).

Evyn Yargeau led Jeannette with a 44. Dominico Ponzetti had a 49, and Ronnie Stout and Seven Tabor fired 52s. Noah Rattigan’s 53 rounded out the scoring for the Jayhawks (1-5).

University High 166, Laurel Highlands 187 — The Mustangs dropped a non-section match to University High (Morgantown, W.Va.) at Mountainview Golf Course.

Per West Virginia High School state rules, the top four golfers per team factor into the scoring.

Laurel Highlands (4-1, 4-2) was led in scoring by Damon Revak and Kayden Smith, who each carded a 45. The Mustangs’ Mason Cicci had a 48 and Ryan Revak shot a 49.

University’s Owen Estel earned medalist honors with a 41. Teammates Will Biddington, Jagger Barnes and Brayden Rickman each carded a 43.
