Geibel Catholic saved its best performance for its last.

The Gators’ baseball team won their final game of the season on Monday in a 2-1 victory over Hillel Academy in non-section play at Andrew T. Soberdash Memorial Athletic Field on the campus of Geibel Catholic Junior-Senior High School.

Geibel (1-4) won for the first time in six-plus seasons after the baseball program went on hiatus in 2019 despite an effort to put a team on the field.

The victory was on “Senior Appreciation Day,” as Elias Martin and Mike Miller were honored prior to the game. The school also highlighted senior trap team members, Sarah Echard and Ethan Harner.

The Gators’ Eahn Stevenson, a freshman, pitched a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts and four walks over seven innings.

The Panthers (6-5) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, as two errors contributed to Hillel’s lone run.

Geibel tied the game in the bottom of the frame on John Hess’ run-scoring single that plated Evan Strimel, who had singled and advanced to third on a throwing error.

The Gators scored the game-winning run in the fourth. Stevenson singled past the Panthers’ shortstop and stole second before scoring on Zander Zimmerman’s two-out base hit to left field.

Stevenson picked off two Hillel base runners in the third inning, and Strimel fielded a strike from Hess to nab a Panther runner who was attempting to steal second base.

Stevenson had two hits and stole three bases.
