Connellsville hockey edges Morgantown, 3-2
Landon Garlick’s goal broke a tie game in the third period, as Connellsville edged Morgantown, 3-2, on Thursday evening in PIHL Division 2 action at CFS Bank Event Center in Rostraver Township.
Evan Sabatine provided the assist on Garlick’s goal at 8:57 of the third period after the Mohicans had tied the game at 2-2.
The Falcons (3-1-0-0, 9 points) opened the scoring in the first period when Liam King put the puck past Zander Bailey at 7:04 for a 1-0 lead. Garlick and Logan Jenkins provided the assists.
Connellsville added a second tally 87 seconds later on Larry Barrofio’s goal for a 2-0 advantage. Connor Basinger and Nico Pisula had the helpers.
Morgantown (3-2-0-1, 10 points) cut the deficit to 2-1 at 7:33 of the second period when Cooper Cox scored. Dominic Petrucci had the lone assist.
The Falcons held a one-goal lead until 2:54 of the final period when Brooks Nelson scored on an unassisted tally.
Nick Daniels-Nimick stopped 26 shots. Bailey made 19 saves.
Connellsville heads up Interstate 79 on Nov. 11 to play McDowell (2-2-0-0, 6 points) at LECOM Sports Park in Erie. The puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m.
