Radcliffe scores 4 goals in Mustangs’ section victory

Cole Radcliffe scored four goals in Laurel Highlands’ 5-1 victory over South Fayette on Thursday at South Fayette in Section 2-3A boys soccer play.

The Mustangs improved to 2-1-0 in the section and 4-1-0 overall.

Jett Yauger had the other tally for the visitors.

Laurel Highlands keeper Dan O’Neal made four saves.

The Lions fell to 1-2-0 in section action and 1-3-0 overall.

Mount Pleasant 3, Yough 2 — The Vikings rallied from a halftime deficit to edge the Cougars in overtime at Cougar Mountain in a Section 4-2A match.

Gavin Rummel received a drop pass from Austyn Gross roughly six minutes into the first overtime period for the match winner.

Yough (2-1-0, 2-2-0) had a 1-0 lead at halftime before Bryson Bankosh tied the match in the second half. Tyke Snyder’s penalty-kick tally put Mount Pleasant (3-0-0, 4-1-0) in front, 2-1, but the Cougars tied the match with seven minutes remaining.

Beth-Center 16, California 0 — Parker Amos was responsible for eight goals and split time at keeper to earn a combined shutout in the Bulldogs’ victory in Section 2-1A play at Trojan Stadium.

Amos had a hat trick and assisted on five goals for an eight-point night. He combined with Kaleb Amos, who scored one goal, for the clean sheet.

Nekoda Bundy had four goals, as Beth-Center improved to 2-0-0 in section play and 4-1-0 overall.

Acie Lawrence, Dominic Stopka and Jacob Stopka all recorded a brace. Jonah Teluch and Joseph Minucci also scored.

Waynesburg Central 9, Brownsville 1 — Brendan Cole found the back of the net four times in the Raiders’ win over the Falcons in Section 4-2A action at Raider Stadium.

Waynesburg improved to 1-1-1 in the section and 1-2-1 overall.

Brownsville dropped to 0-3-0 in section play and 1-5-0 overall.

Latrobe 3, Belle Vernon 0 — Morgan Bunch made six saves, including stopping a penalty kick, but the Leopards couldn’t get anything going offensively in a Section 3-3A setback at Latrobe Memorial Stadium.

The Wildcats (1-1-0, 1-2-0) had a 1-0 lead at halftime before adding two insurance tallies in the second half.

Belle Vernon dropped to 2-1-0 in section action and 3-3-1 overall.

In another Section 3-3A match on Thursday evening West Mifflin topped Uniontown, 3-1.

Thomas Jefferson blanked Albert Gallatin, 9-0, in Section 2-3A play.

Connellsville had a 7-0 setback to Upper St. Clair in Section 2-4A action. Southmoreland shut out Derry, 5-0, in Section 4-2A.

Girls soccer

Laurel Highlands 10, Charleroi 2 — Adrianna Walker scored five goals in the Lady Mustangs’ non-section victory over the Lady Cougars on Thursday night at Myron Pottios Stadium in Fallowfield Township.

Camryn McClean added a brace, and Taylor Irwin, Makenna Frey and Ella Doman all scored for the visitors.

Addison Stroko had a clean sheet in the first half before Amelia Michael took over in the second 40 minutes.

The Lady Mustangs improved to 2-1-1.

Girls volleyball

Laurel Highlands 3, Elizabeth Forward 0 — The Mustangs earned a sweep at Elizabeth Forward in Section 3-3A play on Thursday.

Laurel Highlands won by set scores of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-20.

Sara Reed had a team-high 20 assists, and also contributed with eight digs, three kills and two aces. Teammate Diondra Brown had six kills, four digs, three blocks and one ace.

The Mustangs’ Lucy Baker had nine kills, five digs and one ace. Harlie Dirda had 10 digs, three kills, two aces and one block.

Esther Waqanivalu chipped in for the visitors with six digs, four aces, three kills and one block. Addie Ciez had four kills, two aces, one assist and one dig.

Laurel Highlands improved to 1-0 in section action and 2-1 overall.

Brownsville 3, Washington 1 — The Lady Prexies won the first set, but the Lady Falcons rolled off three straight in a Section 3-2A victory at Brownsville Area High School.

Washington won its set by a score of 28-26 before Brownsville scored wins of 25-16, 25-23 and 25-19 to improve to 2-0 in the section and 4-0 overall.

Skyler Gates had a team-high 25 kills, plus she added nine digs and seven blocks. Teammate Kenzie Adams led her team in assists with 17. She also had 13 service points.

Aijanae Foster had 10 kills, eight service points and four aces. Ashley Evanchak led the Lady Falcons in digs with 20. She had 10 service points. Teammate Ari Johnson added 13 helpers and saved seven points.

Frazier 3, Greensburg Central Catholic 0 — The Lady Commodores swept the Lady Centurions in Section 4-1A action at Henry DiVirgilio Field House.

The set scores were 25-4, 25-17 and 25-12.

Maddie Salisbury led Frazier (1-0, 2-1) in kills with 12. Teammate Allie Monack had 20 service points, 13 assists and seven kills.

Addison Hiles had a team-high eight digs for the Lady Commodores. Frazier’s Addison Shultz had five blocks. Morgan Fisher added nine assists.

Waynesburg Central 3, Bentworth 0 — The Raiders remain unbeaten in section and overall play after a Section 3-2A triumph at Bentworth.

Waynesburg (2-0, 4-0) won by set scores of 25-12, 27-25 and 25-8.

Ani Cree had 14 kills, six digs and two blocks. Chatham Knight added 18 assists and two aces. Railey Bochna had 10 kills and seven aces.

The Lady Raiders’ Harper Grimes and Emily Rafferty had five kills apiece, and teammate Lelia McCollum finished with 10 digs and seven aces.

Sofia Gaussa led the Lady Bearcats (0-2, 2-2) in digs with 22. Addison Pysh had five kills and Nora Lindley added four. Zoie McDonald had a team-high four aces.

Belle Vernon 3, Ringgold 0 — The Lady Leopards earned a Section 3-3A triumph at Belle Vernon Area High School.

Belle Vernon (1-1, 3-1) won by set scores of 25-16, 25-18 and 25-17.

The Lady Leopards’ Mallory Wasicek had a team-high eight kills. Aubrey Brown had seven and Mia Roebuck four.

Joy Johnson had eight digs. Wasicek and Mailey Hayes added five apiece.

Abby Nickolls set up 24 of Belle Vernon’s attacks. Nickolls had seven service points. Five points were scored with Wasicek at the service line, and four when Brown served.

Thomas Jefferson 3, Albert Gallatin 0 — The Lady Jaguars proved why they are the Section 3-3A favorites following a sweep of the Lady Colonials at Albert Gallatin High School.

Thomas Jefferson (2-0, 3-1) won by set scores of 25-6, 26-24 and 25-17.

Despite the setback, the Lady Colonials (0-2, 0-4) had many contributors, including senior Mikayla Shea, who had six digs, three aces and one block. Teammate Paityn Goletz had four kills and digs apiece and five assists. Gabby Penrose had four digs, two kills and one assist for the home team.

Riylee Abel contributed for Albert Gallatin with eight digs, seven assists and one ace. Teammate Gabby DeLorenzo had seven digs and one ace.

Mila Giachetti (2 kills/2 digs), Danica Sterbutzel (5 digs), Baili Chetosky (3 digs), Lily Mick (5 digs) and Ellie Seese (3 kills) chipped in with attacks or defensive play for the Lady Colonials.

Boys golf

Waynesburg Central 201, McGuffey 206 — The Raiders’ No. 4 starter Matt Eisiminger shared medalist honors with the Highlanders’ top golfer, Josh Rusmisel, and Waynesburg came away with a key victory in Section 3-2A play on Thursday at Dogwood Hills Golf Course in Claysville.

Eisiminger and Rusmisel each carded a 36.

The Raiders improved to 8-0 in section action and 9-0 overall.

Jarett Tretinik came in second for the Raiders with a 38. Teammate Cole Headlee had a 41, and Rykan Gustafson and Lucas Slifko closed the scoring for the visitors.

Dominic Amos was McGuffey’s second-lowest score at 40. Noah Sibert (42), Landon Hatfield (43) and Logen Hughes (45) were the final three scorers for the Highlanders (6-3, 8-4).

Ringgold 221, Uniontown 224 — The Rams’ Evan Callaway fired a low round of 40 in a Section 2-3A victory at Rolling Green Golf Course in Eighty Four.

The Red Raiders’ Liam Glover was one stroke behind Callaway, and teammate Isaac Ellsworth carded a 43.

Uniontown’s Graci Rodeheaver had a 45 and Mason Payton came in at 47. JJ Stewart rounded out the Red Raiders’ scoring with a 48.

Ringgold’s Trevor Benson shot a 43. Dylan Bartkus (45), Evan Anderson (46) and Cole Komonich (47) finished as the final three scorers for the Rams.
